I first became aware of RC cars in the early 80’s, and I guess like anyone that age, I really wanted a Sand Scorcher, but never got the opportunity... Various friends had RC cars, and I messed around with a couple of toy-shop specials myself back then, but it wasn’t until more recently when my friend Julie bought me a tatty TL-01 Subaru Impreza from a car-boot sale that the flame was truly reignited!
That was my first proper Tamiya, and I refurbished it and built a hybrid by fitting a new lexan F150 Truck shell and wheels... Of course I still hankered after a ‘Scorcher... but this was before the re-release of 2010, so ended up building my own special using a Brat/Frog chassis and Monster Beetle shell. That really inspired me to practice various painting techniques and go for a more scale and authentic look, which has culminated in my most recent project - the [Midnight] STUMPkin!
