I came across radio control models in my early teens while browing the magazine rack at my local grocery store. I started off with a cheap Royal Crusher, then a Futaba FX-10, Bolink Eliminator Sport, Losi Junior-T, and then the amazing TA-01 BMW M-3. All of this was in the late 80's early 90's. I grew up, got into other things, but came back to R/C with a renewed obsession in 2008.
I am now reliving my childhood dreams now that I have some time and money to enjoy the hobby. I have been mostly building and restoring Tamiya's. There's just something about them that makes them special!
TC has definitely fueled my obsession/passion/whatever you call this wonderfull affliction.
