Thank you for your kind words everyone! Ruebiracer - the amber beacon was from Radshape as I recall (although they have stopped selling 3rd party products and concentrate on their own machined parts now) - however, if you search on eBay I see there is currently a UK seller offering something very similar for 7.99.

Beautiful work! If I were to build a Tamiya buggy, it would have to be a Super Champ too I think!

What a stunning creation! There is a video of an Axial Jeep driving the actual Rubicon Trail in California... maybe you could pilot this to the Isle of Wight?!

Ha ha! I had a yellow one of these in the late 80's! As I recall it originally had a circuit board inside for the electronics? It ended up sitting in a box for years and more recently I did something similar with a modern ESC and Acoms steering servo (and a cheap 2.4ghz radio set), and it now belongs to my nephew... happy days!

Hi whahooo - yes, so would I to be honest! It's become my perpetual back-burner project it would seem - with other things always taking priority. I'm currently converting my ORV 'Scorcher' with an SRB front end (inspired by this build), and have to finish the body on my crawler - then it will be back to this one as a priority!

Essentially you need to make a new metal skidplate that is just a little wider than the plastic chassis at the front, so you can bolt the SRB towers to it in the same way as you would an SRB chassis - it's almost as if Tamiya made the ORV chassis the correct width to fit between the SRB towers on purpose! As I mention in the intro, it's not a new idea - someone did something similar here a few years ago: although I am choosing not to cut the front end off the chassis, as I want the extra room for the spare tyre.

Nice! I think the Axial Honcho will be immeasurably nicer with a detailed hard-body, and this colour scheme looks fantastic!
