Cossie P100: Ta01 build
Very nice! It is testament to chassis has been around for over years now! Tamiya certainly made some profits from the original Manta Ray and the numerous variations that followed as buggies and tourers.

Nayfy: My second leo (the first on is my youngest son)
Hi Nafy, Thanks for the comments on my 502X. In regards to you questions no issues what so ever with the 502X. It runs smooth and when it jumps you can hear the engine and transmission turning over freely. Unfortunately due to other commitments this year I haven't raced! Thus the Leonis is still new built and hasn't been run. The rear gear box on the Leonis is different to the 502X as the input shaft is angled. The only way I see the diff gear and the input shaft gear not binding properly are follows: 1. the amount shims is incorrect or they have been placed incorrectly; or 2. the gears have been damaged and now don't mesh well, even if they were rebuilt properly after inspecting the diff.

One other issue to look out for. The screws that mount the rear gear box to the main chassis are different lengths. If you mix them up , the long one can push through into the gear box housing (soft plastic) and hit the main diff gear. I diid this on first build of the 502X but noticed my mistake before the car ever got run.

In closing the 502X diffs aren't the best, i need to rebuild mine as they are no longer smooth, however they don't make noise. All I would do is strip everything down and rebuild it paying close attention to the instructions. I had three goes at the Slipper Clutch before I figured it out properly on the Leonis! Most of the time its a matter of seeing if its doing what it is supposed to before installing in the car. Hope this helps! I'll provide an update if I ever get to run the Leonis in 2013!!

bjorklo: It's time to take this egress back to it's former glory
One last blast is always good fun!. Check the bearings if it seemed slower! When I raced one back in the day, I trusted the sealed bearing did just that...seal! But I discovered they don't after I cooked a stock motor. Good thing is the blue seals can be removed easily with a fine model knife. They can then be cleaned very easily and re-oiled.

Lostwave: Wow, what a kit.
Nice pictures of Chassis! I think the dislike comes from the origin of the chassis - classic Tamiya Avante/Egress being turned into a basher! Personally I think its a really interesting model and would be great fun! Although the angle of the rear suspension looks a bit of a concern! I hope it flattens out, i.e. drive shafts level out when the batteries go in?

taffer: Odd ball buggy?
This car would be a great basher! Problem is it has the race pedigree of Egress and Avante which seems to be wasted on a basher??? With a few mods you could have a longer wheel base Avante/Egress hybrid!

Don't get me wrong, i like it, just a pity there's not a racing class for it! Would look great with Hi-Cap Dampers! Enjoy!

Percymon: Bargain !
Definitely a good buy if you going to restore or build an Egress from scratch. As it has a longer chassis, you could could always convert it to a long wheel base Avante? Longer chassis's are all the rage these days! I have also thought long and hard about one of these, but I think I may buy and Avante soon, as had an orginal Egress, but never an Avante...

Aussie Top Force: 502x with upgrade chassis set
Hi supper gripper, the car feels more responsive to steering inputs and seems to have more rear end traction. That said, our track was rebuilt between runs with and without the upgrade. The track was much more grippy after the rebuild (see link below), the chassis ate it up and was just as fast as the BB44.2's, Durango's etc.

AJFord: Top force evo spec runner project
Sweet TF. TF definitely trumps Egress! My TF saw the demise of my Egress, which was sold. The TF I still have. Just maybe I'll restore it for vintage running? It's in good nick but has cracks in the plastic on some crucial parts, hub carriers and steering. What's your local Sydney Club? I have some TF spares but I'd have to dig around to see if I have the part your looking for. PM me the part number and I'll have a look. I still have my original TF manual.

AJFord - Paint is home job. Rattle cans Tamiya Metallic purple and white with a spray of sliver behind the purple to give it more depth. And then just the Kit Stickers! Nayfy - has the upgraded centre drive shafts installed.

I drooled over this car in the Tamiya Catalogues back in the day. Looks great! All the elements that make this model so desirable are captured by your restoration.
