description  This is my vintage hilux build. I thought I would give every one an update and show off a most impressive brushless hilux. for the motor, I chose a castle creation 1407 4600 kv motor thats the lowest kv motor they had. There is no need for more kv. all that does is burn up speed controls. Its a brand new design. It hosts exact stock 540 dimentions and mounting measurements. And has 30 % more torque than there previous motor design. I then went with the new castle creations mamba max pro ESC. And a polyquest 2s 25c 2200 mah lipo battery. The dimentions were perfect for the radio box. You could even double up on batteries for a 2s2p that would make it 4400 mah battery. I have not finished the install because I need to order some more wire. I did not opt for putting the speed control in the stock transistorized box because I thought air flow would be cut off as well as ease of access. I hope you all like these shots. If any body would like info on this set up feel free to email me. I also installed a set of punisher drive shafts from RC4WD. If any one needs those part #s just send me an email. I also installed a set of the beautiful new hubs from rogue elements. I also have a set for my BB. I hope everyone got a set or two of these as they are so awesome looking. Im so happy with mine. Let me know what you all think of my brushless hilux.

I have sent a couple of emails about this set up need some help/advice cheers

slimmy  25/01/2011 17:16:40
I don't think I will do any thing else to the suspension. I already put new stock springs in it. I might look into having the spur gear made in aluminum. But you have to have a boat load of them made at once to be cost productive. I think thats pretty much the only week link plus theres the cool factor.

will you also do some modifications to the suspension?

A very interesting combo. A brushless Hilux, never thought I'd see that happen. Belated congrats on the birthday Mark, hope you have a cracker this year.

slimmy  25/01/2011 03:28:08
I will make a video of this as soon as I get her running. I am waiting on some wire right now. But she should be drivable in a couple weeks. I will build a new showroom then and add a video link. I dont believe I have ever seen a brushless hilux before. Or a blazer for that matter. Well we all will soon

I really like the brushless motors, am sure you will let us know how well it works in this truck. I just got a Novak Goat 3s for my SkyScraper, I have it setup and works great so far. I will post some pics soon.

That looks beautiful Mark! Be sure to let us know when it's completed, would love to see the end product I think the powerplant will be a rocket up it's bum, but brushless torque is addictive isn't it?

slimmy  24/01/2011 23:28:06
I might have dragged a polishing cloth across her lovely shiny surface. They were pretty shiny to begin with. But I think I added a little more to the gleam.

This car looks fantastic slimmy!! Have you polished the wheels?? They looks awesome... Waiting for the end result..

slimmy  24/01/2011 18:32:51
She will be getting a bright boxart red with layers of shiny clear. And original 109 stickers, led's, alloy bumpers, roll bar and light buckets. Along with a fully chromed out chassis. I have even been thinking about adding a passenger figure. Because I know rogue elements has a dash plan for the hilux's future. And I will be pimping the interior out as more options become available. It seems like my projects always have a bit more to add as my imagination graduates with each passing year.

Nice! I am a huge fan of Castle motors. I mainly run on-road, but haven't tried these new motors yet. They do have a short course truck motor that does 3800kv. I'm guessing it will be nice to have the pulling power if needed, and it should have PLENTY!

OOOOOOOOOOWWWW!!!!! NICE

slimmy  24/01/2011 09:58:49
Top end should be twice as fast as stock and about four times as much torque. but I will never push it that hard. I just plan tooling around a little and perhaps pulling a trailer with some scale quads, snowmobile, chopper or perhaps a boat trailer with my red titan on it. Perhaps even a small camp trailer. I planned it to be my tow vehicle.

Mark you are a brave man! I have the Kv5600 and it is a beast, i don't think there is a slow speed with these motors! Will be interesting to see how it drives

Naxman  24/01/2011 03:09:59
Very cool Mark! All the custom bits look great too! I like how you have kept the original speed controller mounted even though not in use.

bruiserbuilder  24/01/2011 01:39:51
wow, now thats one nice Hilux! I think that the brushless system will work fine as long as you feather the throttle. the increased speed should not be the problem, its how you get there that will cause problems.

axemandavva  24/01/2011 01:19:29
I really like this, a great mix of the old and new. Can you program the ESC to help protect the trans? Full throttle starts would be dangerous as it`s quite a heavy old beast to get moving!

wow definately interesting. I wouldn't even put that motor in something I knew for sure could handle it lol, your a brave man Mark. But I guess to quote the Frog 'No guts no glory'

Biscuit  23/01/2011 22:42:56
Very nice work, I put the esc in the old esc box, dont think it will get that warm, but I would only run the standard motor if I was you, but good luck anyway let us know if the tranny takes it

slimmy  23/01/2011 22:14:28
I will surely keep everyone informed as to how well the trans holds up. forrest, buddy, its up to you to make this tranny hold.

I tested one of mine with a sport tuned and broke the spur gear be carefull with the 1st gear

slimmy  23/01/2011 22:12:05
Thanks moostar. The tires fit my one piece alloy wheels perfectly. But I did notice them start to flat spot. So I installed some 1.9 foams from a set of RC4wd rock stompers. Now they hold there shape very well.

slimmy  23/01/2011 22:09:29
Yes, That will certainly be the issue. I only plan on running this lightly because it will host chromed out chassis and show paint. An accidental roll over and/or scratches are unacceptable! As long as someone doesnt persist in full throttle stabs off the line and quick back and fourth operation. I think the tranny will hold. Of course my trans will host full ball bearings and metal gears were ever they will fit. : )
