| description | Ok - indulge me this one entry. Anyone thats knows me in TC circles know I have a slight obsession with the ORV Frog / Brat etc .. I've been on Tc now for 9 years ish. And in that time I restored a Frog as box art using all original parts - no reissue used (it was built before the reissue) One part that proved elusive was the correct bumper. When the Frog first was issued it came with a narrow bumper like the Ascona and Audi Quattro - when the Grasshopper / Hornet came out with the wider bumper both the Brat and Frog kits were standardised with the wider bumper. As such they are a very rare part.
I have an original Brat kit which is the first issue however I wanted to create a Frog as per the one I got at Christmas in 1984. I posted a wanted ad in the trades section nearly 3 years ago now and received very few responses (mainly showing me pics of the wider one) however I was recently contacted by TRF_414_M2 from Spain. A very quick offer was made and the bumper secured, great guy to deal with and very quick delivery so cheers Cesar. So now I have the correct bumper, I plan to freshen up the Frog as it's been sat on the shelf for a while and i'll update the pics.
I'd still like another narrow bumper for my Brat but to make that spot on I need the correct 'C' parts and correct chassis without the skid plate holes which I feel will be an impossible task. SO for the moment let me indulge by showing a picture of the bumper prior to fit ...

I have an original Frog - from new.
I clearly remember brush-painting the original body with green lexan paint out off a little bottle !
It had the small bumper...
...but when the Grasshopper came out with larger ones I fitted one to my Frog (thought it would be better protected ! ) - and try as I might, I can not find it again !
Hi Rosey - yeah 100% the original Frog had the narrow bumper. If you look at original press releases / tamiya images / manuals / box art. It all shows the narrow bumper. And yes i'm getting on a bit now but as far as memory goes it's 100% as far as obsessional ORV facts as plenty will tell you that know me LOL
Are you sure your '84 frog had a narrow bumper? I mean, it is a fact that each time we recall a memory there is potential to change that memory so it could have been a standard, run of the mill, common as muck wide bumper could it not!? Okay i'm messing with you, the memory thing is true though. Mmm i can think of one word for 'slight obsession' haha. Glad your Frog is finally sorted though and it looks good
my narrow bumper NIB is safely tucked away. One of the very very few lucky flukes I've had when buying Tamiya.
AT LAST MATE!!!!! Time to dust that Frog me thinks...
don't think ill run that one as i have others to run but thanks for the advice cheers
Looks like I have some other ORV fans
Well done mate for finding one. I've learned something new here. Your knowledge of the chicken carcass is strong young Jedi
A rewarding result after a long search. Nothing! is impossible..!
i know what you mean about the bumper. i have a first issue brat never ran with the said bumper and with upgrade motor[black can red end bell] and i have one on my audi which has just been on here recently. they are much nicer fit than the wider one.nice to see you finally found one. if your still after another one. just depends on how deep your pockets are but auctions on bay has one brand new but it is very pricey. good luck in getting another one. ps i don't suppose you know who runs the brat pack sig now as vie ben trying to join for some time as im like you i have the orv bug. thanks neil
Just shows, never give up hope!
