| description | Hi All,
This has been a very slow resto for me, but work has progressed enough for me to now add an update. Chassis work has now finally been completed. Since these pics, the radio box has been installed too, complete with radio gear. As you can see, I've done some polishing to the chassis rails. I originally intended to paint these black but they do look nice polished. I have painted the axles, transmission & front of chassis in semi-matt black. The hubs have also been painted. The shocks have been stripped, cleaned, painted blue with the Monroe decals added & all brass polished too. I actually didn't polish the universal joints to the driveshafts, as I liked the aged tone that they had. I had stripped every single part down on this, including the transmission parts, axles, etc & cleaned, greased, threadlocked all - including screws, where re-usable - and built all back up again but I've not had to buy any new parts so far, just replace some of the screws. This is the first 3speed I've restored & it certainly was a task, these have a lot of parts when in bits However, once cleaned all the parts were in really good condition, certainly considering the age, so I decided not to paint as much as I was going to. The photos at the bottom show it when I bought it. If I did another though, I would probably replace ALL the screws & bolts with new, because it took a fair amount of time & became tedious cleaning all the usable ones, as well as all the other parts. But i particularly wanted to retain the small slot-head screws where possible, which I was able to do, with some spares I already had.
Overall, I'm really happy with how this is turning out. It has taken a long long time due to me not being able to spend enough time on it continuously, just to get to this stage but now it seems worth it. The body is actually finished, including decals & details but I want to keep that under wraps until it is fully complete All I have left to do now is paint the lettering on the tyres, oh & I have a couple of bespoke details to make to finish - just got to find a bit more time now. Thankyou for looking & any comments are welcome.
Best wishes to you

Thanks again for all the comments guys.
@Slimmy - Hopefully I can meet your confidence in me
@3SPD REKR - I appreciate all the advice from an experienced hand. There may be more parts that get painted & that's good reason. Something I'm considering but it may be more long term work.
Thanks again All!
Great work on this. I found that the stock 3mm fasteners are very soft, so I opted to use grade 8 socket heads which look much nicer I think. I really like the black parts, go for it on all the steel pieces too. The paint works to protect the metal over time from handling etc.
Nice looking blazer project. I'm sure it will turn out to be a master piece in your hands
Looks better than good!
Thankyou Gents for the further kind comments.
I had to make a lot of difficult decisions on this one, what to & what not to paint, should I polish this, should I leave that, will this go with that, etc so it's re-assuring to get good feedback, thanks again.
@JB86 - I know, the batts weren't the best for presentation
It takes a degree of courage, good skills and an eye for detail to modify a vintage three-speed and this looks absolutely spot on! Very nice work Mark, I'm waiting to see the body now
Based on your start here its going to be a beauty again! A nice set of jack stands would be a nice instead of ur AAs. Check this number on ebay230565536938. I have a couple of sets for my projects, sweet!
Now this is how to do a resto! Great write-up. The model looks fantastic; your attention to detail is super! I look forward to seeing how this progresses. Top job.
Looks like new Mark, nice job. One day a 3 speed, one day...
