description  The Bearhawk bumpsteer that was inherited by the Blitzer bigwheel series seriously annoyed me. So I decided to do something about it.

The cause is the radically different angle of the tie rods to the arms. This causes them to move through a different arc to the arms when the suspension is in motion. The easy fix to the geometry is to swap the left and right stub axles so the pivot ball is now underneath the steering arm.
Oh noes!!1 Now you can not steer more than a few degrees because the tie rod hits the suspension.... Easy fix too...

I took my Dremel and simply removed a portion of the lower arm and hinge pin that was obstructing the steering. It has reduced the trailing side 'ears' by about 50% in width. I do not believe this will weaken the arm much, as if the wheel strikes and object while moving forward, the rear end of the hinge pin will be pushing in, not trying to pull out.
I will know on Saturday, I will be using my Blitzer in a 15 minute vintage caravan race! I will update this article on the durability of the modified front arms.

I've read this tip a few times elsewhere but was a little dubious to do it cos of the differing terminology, the pics really helped. I have a re re Blitzer, I did this conversion and found I only needed to file a little but off the side of the tie rod end (black bit in pic 1) to stop it fouling. Bump steer is 99% cured, it only occurs right at point of full compression. Thanks B.M.T.

Nice work, great pics - will be trying this on the bear hawk rebuid. Blitzer themed caravan would be an interesting project !
