description  It was exactly 25 years ago to this day that I received my very first Tamiya, the Hotshot and is still my most memorable Christmas ever. I figured therefore what better way to commemorate this special occasion than to add one to my showroom.

This exceptional kit however isn’t just any 58047 Hotshot but is in fact the super rare Mk1 version and my personal Holy Grail. This wasn’t the kit I received back then, I got the later Mk2 version but it was a Hotshot, the buggy I had obsessed about for the past year and that was all that mattered.

The most discernible difference with the Mk1 is the bumper of course. This is identical to the box art and is a higher rake in comparison to that of the Mk2 and was made out of a very soft plastic. This combination meant it was inadequate at protecting the front gear box from impact damage and despite its aesthetic appeal, only saw a very limited release (1 month) before the revised bumper version (Mk2) replaced it. There are also less obvious differences to be seen with the Mk1 as well, the flanged bumper stay and front gear box, omission of the rear gear box guard and bespoke 8mm ball ends and steering arms to this kit. The manual is also unique of course with the relevant illustrations denoting the changes.

Finding this has been the highlight of the last 5 years I have spent collecting and with absolute certainty, completes my original ''shot'' collection

Merry Christmas to you all from an extremely elated Hotshot fan

OMG still in the box mk1 wow very very cool keep it just the way it is

Chris I noticed that as well in JWeston's Mk1 comparison pictures but like the grooves in the front arms, it is another drawing error. The E10 part has three holes, as confirmed by Chris (c_smith). See a picture of this part in my Hotshot extra info write-up.

I suppose I will never know if that E 10 part actually exists with only TWO holes through it and not three like I have always seen. Too bad that tape is intact.

Hey Guys. Something to think about. There are only 2 NIB Mk1 Hotshots on TC. Which makes it rarer than a 58001 Black Porsche. Feel free to disagree but using TC as a gauge this is how the numbers stack up.

Really pleased for you, mate - I know how much you love the Hotshot! (As much as I love the Avante!) And what a perfect time to post 25 years to the day. Well done! A stunning example of a very rare kit...

Nice find and post. I see your manual is from March 1985, but getter yet, it is in English. Mine is in Japanese, makes it hard to read for me.

What a great find ! Never ceases to amaze me how these NIB vintage kits still keep appearing after 25 years or more. How on earth did anyone resist the temptation to build it for so long ??? Assume you will be keeping it NIB

I logged on just to have a look a this. ....is this the best NIB 58047 on the planet? If there is a better one then I'd like to see it. The whiteness of the box looks completely unyellowed. There are of course other mint 58047s in the showrooms but they aint Mk1 kits and that's the crucial difference. Needless to say I am very jealous, one of the true Tamiya Holy Grail kits, and what a great way to list it. Congrats bud.

Congradulations mate. It doesn't get any better this. After posting my mk1 this is still the only other confirmed NIB mk1. Merry Christmas.

That is truly awesome. I heard that one guy xrayed his sealed NIB to see if it was a mkI. It wasn't. Massive fan myself of the Hotshot. Maybe one day I'll get hold of a mkI. I believe the bumper has more holes in it or bigger holes as well? J

A stunning looking kit. I'd call that mint! Xmas 1986 I was still dreaming for a Tamiya RC, but had to make do with a radio shack.
