description  When I was re-building my Hilux ready for its retirement, I removed the motor to replace it with a new one (obviously, what's a resto without a new motor)

This motor is over 5 years old, and has been through the wars (slowly) so I figured I would try something, I looked through the peep-hole, and found the brushes were barely even touched, still in the 'W' pattern...
So I thought I would try a motor resto...

Firstly, I attached the motor to my dremmel (perfect size, heh, I'm never usually that lucky)
Then held it under water (holding the casing still) and ran it on 50% power for about a minute (not nearly long enough, about 3 minutes is good, more like 5 for a new motor) and bedded in the brushes to the comm. This worked a treat, the 'W' pattern had gone and it was now a perfect half moon. Spot on...

Then I removed the motor and quickly dried it (by shaking the crap out of it in a rolled up towel) and then sprayed a load of electrical contact cleaner (quick evaporation rate) inside it (which made it look brand spanking new inside, nice n shiny...

After it had dried right out, I had a brand new motor, looking like pic 1... cant have that, so out comes the metal polish, and the demmel gets a new attachment (that this time isn't made by Mabuchi lol)

After a good wipe down with a micro-fibre, it's now shinier than when I took it out of the box 5 odd years ago (pic 2, if you hadn't already worked that out lol) - you wouldn't believe that motor has been through mud, sand, sea water, a lake, my shower, dust, dirt, etc etc.

Hope this will help somebody

I'll post a selection of pictures into a page that shows my 'kinky motors' - later...

The yellow duster - you cannot beat it !

I must admit, I'm not 100% sure what you were going on about in the first part, but it sounds kinky... lol... I'll be sure to do the yellow duster and elbow grease jobbie in the morning, mainly because now you've told everyone about it, I kind of have to haha. I bought the dremmel so that I could avoid manual labour as much as possable lol but I'll give it a shot

...'ere - I use that sauce in MY puddings as well - but the motors I am playing with are a little different...

OK... now do the outside of the motor case with your sauce again - but this time - use a yellow duster and you'll get a better result !

It's the elbow grease you add that makes the difference !
