Some of the local guys put on a RC demonstration at the Kingaroy Show this weekend. I was invited to join in, stir up some dust and make the air smell like nitro.

I took along the Savage LE and the Baja 5B SS. Both performed beautifully nearly all day. The Baja ceased to proceed with a blown clutch, then 2 tanks of fuel later in the Savage it stripped out the steering servo. The Baja clutch failure was unexpected as it's only had about 30ltrs of fuel through it to date. The Savage I expected might break something as it passed 79ltrs of fuel through the truck without any notable breakages or failures in the past. So the servo has lasted well considering it's just the stock RTR HPI supplied servo.

I wasn't the only one to have failures. Check the engine in pic 8 and 9. The conrod let go and literally smashed the engine in two. I was given the busted engine casing and conrod to hang up on display on the wall of shame in my RC workshop. Most of the other failures were servo related.

Most of the field was made up of Traxxas and HPI, Savages, Revos, Jato, and Slashes. There were a few late arrivals that I never got to photograph.

The demonstration track was a small kidney bean shape flat track (no jumps) lined by hay bales. I think the hay bales were the cause of most of the servo failures as they grabbed a wheel when you got a bit too close. I discovered that a hay bale will not stop a Baja 5B, it just goes straight through and scatters it everywhere. I didn't manage to get any action shots as I was too busy driving with the usual Baja induced huge grin on my face.

There was a steady flow of spectators and many questions from the onlookers while the cars were in the pit area.

All involved had a great day despite the few breakages. Comments welcome as always.
