Don't you just love finding stuff on ebay that due to errors in the listing go somewhat under the radar. This was listed as a Timiya Rough Rider original with no additional write up, except to say it was collection only (from my home town might I add) or they would post for Ģ25. However it had received 17 bids and there was still 24hrs left......
I watched and waited and watched some more, I made the mistake of getting in my head that it will be mine, then threw down my max bid and won it I collected it the next day, less than 5 minutes from my home and I'm chuffed to say the least.
The guy I collected it from was the original owner, he spoke about getting the car when he was 16, about how his friends had others and one of them had a holiday buggy but it wasn't like this he said, this was the king As his friends smashed their cars, he collected the parts. I complemented his painting, in particular the driver of the brown Rough Rider, he laughed and said when he was 16 he was an expert He spoke about running the car at a local swamp not far from my house where I occasionally go to run my own cars now, this just adds to the appeal of this car for me. It was great to chat with him too, a genuinely nice bloke.
This is the first time the car has been out of his loft in more than 25 years and this is exactly how I got it. I haven't cleaned, replaced, reassembled (apart from putting the scorcher front post on) and it's great, it has all the original radio (acoms ap227) including what he called an upgrade speedo? As well as the original.
As a bonus he said 'do you want the tool drawer thing, it's empty but you can take it', I said 'yeah sure' and it's a good job I did as there are still spares in there, like front swing arms, cam locks and some original unused decals, although some are unusable now due to some oil saturating the paper they are on.
So here it is my second original Rough Rider turned Sand Scorcher, a car that I know will be in my collection for a very long time, only question is should I clean it? I am tempted to simply clean the chassis and leave the shells (one of which will land on my other SRB chassis) who knows? For now it's pride of place on the mantle piece next to a picture of my son
Thanks for looking, and all comments welcome as always.
