Some time ago I aquired a new built Williams FW07. A very hard to find model. Especially in new built condition. Despite it was new built, never used, the paint job was ugly, lots of tears, wizened, yellowed and wrong color. So that state I could not accept to put the car into the Vitrine.
After an intensive search I stumbled across a nib set of decals for the Williams. Fortuna again was on my side. So the resto could start.

First of all. Since about 10 years I use the same fluid to get rid of old paint and still that time I never had to Change it. So I still use 10 years old fluid and it is still okay. I just bought another two litres to rise the Level in the bucket.

The fluid I use is from manufacturer 'TIGER' and is called 'ENTFETTER' (degreaser) and is water based. So harmless to any sort of synthetic materials. !Do not drain aluminum into this fluid - it will be eaten up quickly :-)!

So put a couple of litres into a bucket and drain all the body parts a couple of days at last. Better one or two weaks. The longer, the easyer the paint peels off. I once forgot a Body and let it drain for several month. No Problem, Body was still perfect and still is. There was not pait on the Body at all, everything came off alone. You even can drain lexane bodies with! the Stickers on. The Stickers will stay perfectly on the lexane Body!

So I had the Williams Body parts drain for a good week. See the Pictures, the paint peels off almost from alone.

Once you feel it is ok, take the parts off the fluid and clean it good with worm tap water. You may also use Soap to clean the Body parts. Depending on the time the Body soaked in the fluid you might find it useful to use a clean tooth brush to rub off some sticky paint resedue if ther is. Let it dry and if needed use a 2000 wet sandpaper to grind off some scratches or whatever. In my case I did not Need to use sand paper because the Body is unused.

That's it. Very easy and effective way to start a good restoration.

However, this fluid cannot remove nitro based lacquer! In this case maybe another product or sand paper and lot of Patience may help.

1 the product 1 the body parts in the bucket full of degreaser half a week result, then the other side was due cleaned with tap water tooth brush and soap 1 the body looked like when it arrived

So this is a water based degreaser then? I will need to do some research on this.

Yes, it is water based. But I don't know if it is available in the states. But it is nice to work with.

Oh, I love anything that eats paint off. Since it is WATER based, I would suppose it could be shipped from overseas then??? I certainly hope so.

Cool, we have a similar product in the US called simple green. You have to get the concentrate version. Works the same, environmentally safe and won't give you cancer (like apparently brake fluid can). Thanks for sharing this tip

Looks like it'll be an easy job preparing for paint, it's almost completely clean straight out the bucket. I'll have to try some, I've been using Detol, but it's expensive.

Yes, the longer you let the Body soaking in the solvant, the better the paint peels off. You can let it soak for a month, then the paint will be off completely and you just have to wash it clear with tap water.

We can buy it here in Austria at Obi, Hornbach, Baumax etc. I think this product is sold locally only but I have organised some bottles for some TC-members and shipped abroad. No Problem if required. One bottle (1 litle) costs about 6 to 7 euro

I used the degreaser on a Monster Beetle shell with 3 Layers of paint (red, green and pink!!). After a few dasy the paint was washed away and no need to scrub. Great stuff.
