Beaten up now restored
Love these Scorchers, purchased this one in a job lot with 5 other cars. All were very beaten.
The body has loads of plastic filler. I removed the shredded rain rail and the lower front valence, filled many cracks.Tried not to spend too much money on the resto. Only used parts from my spares box.
The radio crate is my first copy of a Super Champ that I cut it out over 25 years ago.
The paint is a bit ordinary because it kept sinking on the plastic repairs. Not sure on the black engine cover.
I like the orange in the wheels but it only came with 3 and a bit complete wheels.
Never have liked the torsion bars so knocked up a couple of GRP brackets for RC10 shocks. The front towers had been cut already so fitted RC10 shocks up front too.
Bought new F and R rubber, its a squeeze getting the XR311 tyres on Scorcher rims but like the look.

I Love it, looks fantastic, a nice project car! BTW, the rear tires are mounted backwards.

The XR311 tyres look great on the scorcher!
I will have to try that! So its tight but the XR311 tyres fit right onto the Scorcher wheels then with no mods?
Love the top deck of the chassis too! looks like old circuit board used that's brilliant!
Nice Scorcher!

This a great save and it looks good as well.

Mongoose stole my thunder, great looking mock up there. I will dig up my spare wheels and I LOVE that old school DIY upper deck out of an old circuit board. I will send you my SC upper deck if/when I find that wheel for you. I think if you 'matted' the black engine cover it will look less 'in your face' as it is a bit too glossy for me. I think the Gulf look is definately there, but you need a big MEATBALL on the sides with a number, like 47 or 74??? Just sayin', off to look for that wheel.

Thank you guys, Overall I am happy with the results. I will try some matt on the back Crash Cramer. Bit of a rush on the rear tyres mongoose1983, thanks. Cheers Grumpy pants. MAD-BEE, yes XR311 are a tight squeeze and it does change the profile of the tyre from rounded to squared off. You have to use an extra 8mm x 5mm × 2.5mm lipped bearing on the inside for clearance and a new nyloc nut on backwards to lock on front wheels. Might be getting a few stickers yet. Thank you all!

Seems Tamiya came out with some sort of 4mm hard lock nut for the changing widths of touring cars, wonder if they would work here on the fronts?? Sorry about the wheel, thought I had more than I do.

Great to see another one saved! Quite like the colour scheme. Do agree with Crash the black would look better flat. But as I have found go with what works for you.
