I'm a little bit obsessed with the King Cab - it was my first Tamiya back in 1990 so I've a fondness for it. This is one I picked up on eBay a few month back for a bargain £90. As you can see from the last pic it wasn't a brilliant paint job, but the tyres looked remarkably unworn which is a good sign on trucks like these that it's had little use - most are as bald as a coot.

When it arrived I gave it a quick run but the diff slipped and the steering arm came off so that ended pretty quickly. I stripped the truck down, cleaned it all and rebuilt and it's scrubbed up a treat. aside from a couple of scuffs to the underside it's like new. I had to replace the diff housings and internals, swap the body pins and antenna tube for the correct ones and rewire the speed controller resistor terminals.

I attempted to strip the paint but without success, so I instead bought a Team Bluegroove body and some repro stickers. Painting the body on these is an absolute mission, the most fiddly and frustrating masking job I've ever done. It didn't turn out too bad though and I was able to neaten up some of the black with a Sharpie.

I had intended this to be a runner but it's turned out a bit too good for that!

1 Looks decent now... ...but this is how it arrived! 1 Rear 1 Side 1 Nice and shiny 1 Paint turned out pretty good Previous paint a little thin Chassis cleaned up nicely Was grubby when I got it The old paint job. No words!

This is absolutely looking nearly NEW, it is a great restoration job and the paint on the body is better than anything I think I could pull off. Nice work.

My favorite car/kit of all time. This is a great example and you did a superb job of painting it. No other color scheme looks as good for this kit IMHO. Having said that mine is still clear as no one in my city has the skill to pull off a painting job like this, myself included...lol
