This holds a lot of memories for me in 1983 and after months of looking in the freeman's catalogue I decide on the wild Willy m38 it was a choice between the ford ranger and Willy. What won the choice was buying the Tamiya catalogue in the same year and seeing the action shots, plus the awsome camo wild willy. I headed back from a birthday shop with my mum carrying my M38. I was 11 or 12 at the time after a week of building! it was finished but not built properly after all I was to young to build it on my own. The main reason was the front wheels came apart after spraying them.! A flaw in the moulding process as both fell apart so it never even got used.
About 5 years back I obtained a lwb version then sold it after finishing a box art finish on it. A year ago I bought the Swb version after waiting for the right condition vehicle to turn up. The chassis was in excellent condition body not so good so had to source another body for it, after careful reshaping and filler plus sanding it was finaly finished in box art, I then waited another year for original decals to turn up at a sensible price. I had several driver figures left over from my model business so added one and the rest is history as they say. The amazing thing is after having this swb I realised it was a swb I had as a boy which totally blew me away as they are super rare.
Hope you enjoy the pics thanks for reading.
The most iconic rc car for me the Wild willy m38 swb.
