This took a while! I'd wanted to recreate one of the arranged component shots from the old RC guide books for some time now. I attempted when I built my 30th Anniversary 934 but I couldn't get the lighting right so abandoned the project. When the Knolling competition was announced my first thought was revisiting the idea. I wasn't sure so tried some other ideas but I wasn't happy with those so with less than one day until the close of the comp I started with this one.

I needed a kit for this which had a finished body but unbuilt chassis. The only one I had in this state was the 40th Anniversary 934 Jägermeister. Ironically the same kit as the competition prize. I'd intended to keep this NIB (having done the body with 30th Parts and a spare sticker sheet) but decided to sacrifice it and bust everything open. It'll be fun to build now all the parts are cut off the trees and the screws all mixed together!

Some recent experimentation with large diffusers had enabled me to get conisistent, soft light from my gear so I knew that part of the project would be fine. Lighting was only aspect though. What I'd discovered last time was how incredible fiddly and time consuming it was to lay out every single screw, nut and bolt and arrange them perfectly. As soon as you put a round screw down it immediately rolls away! I started off with tiny bits of Blu-Tack on the parts that were particularly troublesome but began to run out of time so resorted to just tidying up the wonky ones in Photoshop.

Finally, I cropped it to the same square ratio as the originals, and added the part names and horizontal lines. The layout isn't perfect, I didn't have time to work out the optimum arrangement, and some parts aren't quite straight. I may tidy it up more in future but I don't think it's bad for a first attempt at this!

Superb! That picture could easily go into a RC Guide book of today. You have a great eye for detail.

Love it. I remember staring at the 959 laid out like this for hours and hours back in the day.

Excellent work. I would like to learn about the lenses and diffusers you used to get the light so soft and even.

LOL honestly I didn't even try this one because I had a feeling you'd crush this one with something like this (and you did). Nice work. I hope you make a TC/TN calendar or something with these.

Thanks guys! Happy that all that work paid off @njmlondon, I'll put something together about how photograph my cars. @beefmuffin, Looking into posters and things as someone else has requested those too. @SRB Bloke, the one in the photo will be built, the one I won will stay in the box or get sold. I've got a stack of these 934 bodies so expect to see more completed!
