I started off this year with a build, I hope to keep up the process, but I could find myself in stressful times if I push myself, so I will just go with what I can and keep on trying to organize as well as build/repair projects in the garage/aka MadMan Cave.
First off, MANY thanks to our own scollins for his gift sometime last year(I think) of an FAV minus only wheels and tires. He stated he was after it to build, but in the end it gave up its rolling stock for some other of his projects and he could think of noone but me to put some work into this kit and bring it around to run. I told him that I was game and had some wheels and tires I was dying to try on it and thanked him for the gift. We have traded many a thing in the past and will in the future, so I think what he was doing was priming the pump. ;)
Secondly, I can't thank Tamiyamandan enough for listening to me and painting this thing in a GREAT urban scheme that matches another piece of art he did for me last year or so. I haven't gotten that one down to finish up, but you will all enjoy this and I will post the other when it is time to get it done and then link the two posts in due time. Dan called me many a time to check in with how I thought I wanted this and what parts would see paint and what others would not see paint and then on top of that, he even painted the 50 cal in a brilliant realistic looking fashion that I am still amazed at, almost as amazed as at the driver's coveralls. He took artistic license on the driver, but I think he did it perfectly and I am glad to know someone with his skills.

Onto this post, I spell out all my usual over detail ala James May over here on the forum post, so go over there as I won't want to put everyone visiting the front page to sleep. :P

The parts needed to complete the car were here, it was just a matter of finding them all in order to get them in there. The wheels were fairly easy to find in my spares boxes, then it was bearings to find next as I haven't really gotten any Tamiya things out in the last few months, so those were a tiny bit frustrating to find, then it was some pesky wheel spacers that I knew I had, but not sure what bin they were in. After searching about 9 spares bins and getting distracted with other things and putting up Christmas decorations, I found them and then I was able to put the wheels on this beast and get it all photographed up for you guys and gals to enjoy.
It's maiden voyage didn't go off without a hitch, something is wrong in the gears department, but I don't want to wait any longer and I will remedy that soon enough, I hope.
Enjoy and comment away,
Chris

Coming at ya in 2017 Look at that gun, pure art Final step done, onto the posed shots PROOF that I did something Tamiya in 2017. LOL

Looks great Chris, glad you finished it up! I happen to have a couple sets of those Pro-Line rims set aside for my Wild One re-re. Your pics are making me think I should build it up.

Thanks guys, I do hope to get it a little dirty soon. I did shim the gearbox as directed and at first inspection thought I had used some 5x8 bearings that were perhaps just a bit too wide, but it turns out that it acted the same, it sure is a bit of a pain to pull the motor, then the trans, then reinstall the motor to check what is going on where, then pull the motor again to pull the trans apart. I seem to think it is the metal output shafts walking out of the metal bevel gears inside and the noise I am hearing is the metal bevel gears loosing their mesh with each other and not the nylon gears at all. I have to look into it further. @Dave, good to hear from ya, thought you might still be thawing out up there. @ Steve, again many thanks for the gift, I have one set of rears NIP, but sadly no fronts, they are not the easiest wheels to find. I even have a single used rear in nylon and a single used front in chrome, so if you need a spare wheel to mount to your Wild One, let me know. I had kept these wheels around for working on a Fox, but it sure is hard to beat those gold wheels.

Look out, 300 views. I did FIX IT, I had missed a minor step within a step and suffice it to say, the gearbox was one bearing shy of a full load. DOH, operator error, can't blame anybody but myself, but I do feel better that I solved it.

I had the same trouble with my Wild One runner. Turns out I hadn't followed the directions exactly to 100% detail, thinking I had a pretty good grasp on the diff etc. Once I did it was fine.
