| description | I've finally got around to finishing the second body I got for my Scorcher. This time I wanted it to look more like something you might have seen cruising the street of SoCal in the 70's- a bit of a weekend racer...
It's not quite finished yet though, it still needs wiper arms and license plates and a better stinger on the back. I want to add a set of rough rider rims painted white for a more period look.
I didn't modify the body on this one (except to fill in the sunroof) because I wanted to do one stock body as all the others I've got planned will have various mods so it's nice to be able to show someone a stock one to compare them too (hope that makes sense!!!)
Anyway hope you like. Comments welcome...

this is probably the best paint job i have ever seen on a model. nothing i have seen screams of the period that they are from more than this. i bet the guy who drives this car, has a buddy with a tricked out van,
Yes, yes and yes ! Awesome !
Now that is cool! Thanks Lewis! Hope it's worthy!!
Wow! I've sent a link to my father (John Preston) that built the Race Shop Ghia. He will be thrilled to see this!
You have a great talent in my opinion. Very original and really well done. Congrats!
I keep coming back to look at the pics of this Scorcher - it's such an awsome paint scheme and it reminds me of summer!
imagine doing the same paint job on a polycarbonate shell!
Sorry, that should've been Wunderbug II...!
Fantastic paintwork mate! Another Race Shop Ghia (Thunderbug II) fan here! X/
Hey Robotnik. The paint scheme was done by first painting the whole car white. Then I masked up the metallic brown section. Once that was done I did the orange sections by just laying the masking tape about 1mm off the other colour. It was VERY time consuming but all you need is patience and a steady hand. Once it was all done I added lotsa coats of clear to smooth it all up and add some shine. I used automotive pressure packs. Cheap, work great and a huuuge range of colours! Tip; don't lay the paint on too thick or it will bleed under the tape. Use multiple light coate to build the colur up and you'll be sweet! Hope that helps
Awesome paint job mate. I have just stumbled on your showroom. Is there any chance of any hints and tips on what to use and how to go about creating the pin striping paint effects. Cheers
Lovely paint theme! Sweet ride!
Stunning!!! Awesome paintjob!!! Badboy
Thanks for the kind words guys! I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I'm working on another 70's style baja to go with it now....
Very impressed. The paint job is absolutely superb. I'd be really proud if that was mine.
That is thee best paint jobs l have seen on a Sand Scorcher. So nicely done and you run it too. EXCELLENT.
The bumper and the chassis were both DIYs. I'm working on a few more chassis' at the moment. Got 15 in my drawer at work.... I must be nuts
Just noticed the front bumper, is it a DIY job? where did you get it?
New pics added guys...
You know you have a good car when Jun (cardesigner) decides to send me a link at work. Blown away.
This is ACE !
Agree, very 70s scheme, lovely!
Great work!! I have seen the race shop Ghia that was your inspiration, the translation to the bug lines works great!!! TOP NOTCH
Indeed!!
Thanks guys. Glad you like it. Yes Manuspain it's based on the race-shop ghia. I love that car!!! It was a bit tricky to transfer the style from a ghia to a bug so it ended up a bit different but hey....
Inspirational!!!!! Pity you're not a tad closer...I've got a couple of shells that need sorting. Love it!
Thats one sweet looking scorcher i wish i had your paint and masking skills .
I think this is the best looking blitzer-shelled SS ive ever seen! Absolutely ace. Top work. straight into my favourites...
Wacky and wonderful!
what a nice paint job. This paintscheme was familiar to me because of the colors chosen and the masking done. Did you based it on the dragster karmann Ghia driven by John Preston (the race shop, riverside, california)? The colors are really similar and as you are a flat 4 addicted, sure you ll know which car i m talking about. Very impressive on a sand scorcher !!!!!! excellent.
My word!! I've been really fed up today what with one thing & another.. I now feel better after seeing such an amazing paint scheme!!! It's soooo mouth watering it's unreal!!!!! I bet it took plenty of masking & hard work!!!
And they are a credit to you too mate! Sensational wheels. They always get positive comments.
Absolutely stunning love the paint and those Ally wheels. Well i should do I made them !!!!!
Whoooaaa....that thing is HOT! I don't even want to think if the masking job on this one. Excellent, excellent work!
Wow, that looks fantastic!!! Really like this one too!
It took a while. Luckily I had to do afternoon shift at work for 5 weeks so I got paid to do it
Wow! That's a real neat paint job! Refreshingly unique. Must have taken days to mask?! Very nice work
Great looking scorcher and that paint scheme just screams 70s. Awesome!
'hope you like' - blimey, that's a fantastic scorcher. I really like the paint work on it.
Thanks guys! I cleaned my local hobby shop out of Tamiya tape!!! Love that stuff......
Awesome paintscheme ! This car is totally awesome.
That's a great masking job you've done! Love those colors!
