description  Well, this is now gone, thank God, but I thought I'd leave the story here as a lesson to all.....

It's a sad, sad story, but it has to be told. If nothing else, to get you to LISTEN to your hunches.

A few weeks ago I had a guy over MSN wanting to trade for a touring car chassis. I'd talked with the guy a few times before, seemed to be a bit pushy, but the younguns today seem to mostly be a bit like that. He didn't want anything cheap (TL01, any of my non carbon fibre chassis), instead saying he wanted to get something shaft drive, carbon chassis, very nice. Just so happened I had something in my showroom like that... my STR4 Pro (http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=59347&sid=154). What he was offering for trade was, to quote him, was a '$200 mini t'. Not being a 1:18 nut, I was hesitant... but he kept asking and asking... I was either going to have to agree or block him. So mistakenly, I agreed. Should have blocked him, that's lesson 1.

So the trade goes on... I send him my STR4, steering servo, 14x2 motor, two bodies (one good, one for crashing), and a couple of old stick packs (probably needed a bit of cycling, they hadn't been used for a while). He is going to send me this $200 Mini T... with 'my mini t which is the pro version with the alloy chassis and motor plate n s*** is 199'.... it's the Pro version because 'you wont find a mini t with a 3mm thick chassis and motorplate NOWER'.... as 'i made it myself'. That should have sent the alarm bells screaming... Lesson no.2

Some more quotes... 'ill chuck in a 1200mah pack aswell', 'got anything for my mini t?', 'its value is 200 bucks', 'for my mini t' 'n its brand new', 'alloy hubs, chassis, motorplate, everything', 'dual disk slipper , oil shocks', '$200 mini t', 'i can give u a buggy body if u want?', 'ill chuck in a few battery packs for the mini t', 'i can include a BL esc that i got.....duno if it works tho'.

Now, at this stage, I'm thinking that maybe this would be a nice way to get into 1:18.... a near complete chassis, some upgrades... he sent me a picture, but it was supposedly an old pic, so I let that go. Lesson no.3: ALWAYS get pictures.

The next part of the deal involved me EXPRESS posting the STR4 to him, and he would EXPRESS post my 1:18 back. So, as a trusting soul (I feel lesson no.4 coming), I send off my package. That was the 27th of March. he would have received it either the 28th or the 29th AT LATEST. Things go quiet for a bit... then after a week or so, I get 'been busy will post today'... 'been busy with Easter (BEFORE EASTER!), will post tomorrow'... 'Been busy with Easter (AFTER EASTER!), will post tomorrow'... 'Been sick'... etc etc. Starting to get a bit peeved.

Things get interesting when I notice for sale on another forum, an STR4 Pro... on the 9th of April. So I get pics, and guess what, it's my old one! Apparently, my trade buddy has already traded the car on for something else, and the new owner is now trying to sell it!! For $350!!! And all the while, no response, no package. So I talk to the new owner/seller of the STR4, and he saus 'The guy is online now!'... nope. Looks like I'm blocked. Crook. Yup, Lesson no4: trust has to be earned.

So now it's the 13th of April and guess what? I get a package!!! I open it up..... and, well, to say disappointed is nowhere near how I feel. Here's a list of some of the things I have found wrong so far:
- No body, batteries, ESC
- bearings missing, rear hubs.
- rear wheels missing.
- broken ball joint mounts, chassis mounts, front bumper
- NO WAY the alloy chassis (a piece of crap in itself) could EVER work... it's at least an inch too long!!!
- crappiest skid plate and motor mount I have EVER seen
- screws missing all over the shop.
- The oil shocks, have no spring retainers (I knew about this), but the shock ends are mostly missing or mounted bent
- I haven't even considered the diff yet.... but I turned the outdrives, and there's a noticeable hump in the diff action.

All in all, I'm pretty peeved. This would be lucky to be worth $50. I'll accept that there are a few upgrades (rear alloy hubs, slipper maybe, oil shocks), but what's left is a pile of junk!

If anyone wants any more details about the guy who I traded with (to avoid him maybe), then e-mail me.... I won't be posting details up to leave myself open. I have blocked the guy though, and hope never to deal with him again.

Keep an eye out in my trades if you see something you like.... I won't be able to use ANY of this.

Thats most disheartening to know there are people like that out there but at the same time unplifting to hear you sort of positive about it. Thanks for the heads up and lesson.
