| description | Hi everyone, my restored/project wildone is complete. This buggy came together with the super hornet deal months ago. It was sold to me from a good friend of mine back here in Malaysia. It was actually his childhood rc car. He didn't have the time to restore it back so i got the chance to do it. thanks 'mastermind'. The buggy is very complete when it came, still have the box, manual, blister pack sleeve and lots of spares.. However the gearbox is shot and tires have cracked due to old age. The buggy had a few owners during its 20+year old life. 1st year it was a 'masterminds' runner, after a year, it was sold to a friend and kept in an attic for 17 years, 4 years ago, it was sold to another friend. Last year, it went back to mastermind again. Finally, it was sold to me together with his super hornet. Whew!!
Anyways, here are some details on the project. I was very inspired with the current real life sand rail desert buggy. The biggest feature is i have added front/side tubular frames. Just to enhance its appearance giving it a more exposed type frame construction detail. The 4 wheels are from Tamiya 2 pc type. Mounting the rear wheels is easy with Tamiyas frog 2005 aluminum wheel adapter. The front wheels needed some modifications to fit on the standard upright. It worked fine.. The front tires are from honda crv, rears from pajero rere.
All 4 shocks are from the hornet with custom made 'dummy' piggy back oil reservoir, much like the 1/1 scale buggy type. Other custom parts are front/rear lights and license plate. To complete the restore, it now has a new gearbox and arms. Its in running condition..
Overall the project took around 3 months which includes fabrication, parts sourcing and color scheme choice. I hope you guys will like it. Thanks for viewing.

Absolutely the best Wild One I've ever seen!
Fantastic looking machine... Just managed to bag 2 wild ones for Ģ80 off ebay none of which will ever look as cool as yours tho!
Dr.roberts -- I'm so sorry I missed this the first time. Just an amazing build, one of the best I've ever seen! I'm absolutely speechless. Your wheel/tire combo has also given me an idea...
WOW, I don't know how I missed this the first time around, but it is definitely worthy of the accolades you received from RC Car Action. I would like to see a 'before' photo if you have one. Stunning detail on the driver painting, I know where to send mine for future paint work.
how did this get past me!!!! what a peach!! top work!
I just had to come back and visit this one, such a stunning Wild One
@scollins, its a real pleasure and thanks for your kind words.. You just made my day.
May I remind you that your awesome Wild One inspired me to build my own twist on this idea,,,THANKS!
CASE1, you are right, the carson tires wouldn't fit the tamiya 2pc. I will leave the wheels as it is, More to scale realism. Afterall its an idea/style for this wildone to use modern tamiya 2 pc wheels all round. Initially, it was supposed to have the same 4 pajero tires but it was way too chunky in front. So, i changed it to the crv tires in front. Manuspain, I appreciate your help and the carson website. Also, thanks to everybody with such nice comments. I'm speechless......
that is soo smart,,,nice on
Technical burP has a bear hawk in his showroom with the Carson wheel/tire combo. But I would leave this wheels on.
I just see this wild one now, but it's very great. Original and racy. Looks like it's moving. Great wheels and painted driver! BTW: the Carson tires are buggy size so wont match the rims... I will see if I can find it in someone's showroom.
This is probably the nicest and most original WO i've seen so far on TC! Looks nice!
Manuspain, i never heard about carsons mud terrain tire. How do they look like? At the moment, i sticking to all available Tamiya parts. Thanks.
Cool car. I like the color scheme. What about narrow carson (mud terrain) front tires ? i would look nice for sure.
I love it, great choice of colours, the two piece wheels are so nice and they just look tops on this! Your driver is impressive too, love the helmet, great work mate!
Frame mods are excellent!! Top work on a custom Wild One. Congrats!
The detail work on this is fantastic!! You added even way more scale realism to this buggy, then Tamiya had originally designed into it!!! Top job!!
Brilliant, that's a great looking machine, love the tube mods & the wheels look fantastic.
very nice work, Great scale feeling to it
I'm really overwhelmed by your kind comments guys.. i'm very happy. Many thanks!!!

Wow what a great story and on super looking buggy great job
simply beautiful !!!!!!!! great detailing, i like the driverīs painting and all the rest of the car ! top job !
That is some beautiful work indeed, a very realistic and unique looking Wild One. The colour scheme is fantastic as so are the wheels and shocks with their piggy back oil reserviors. It really is a nice peice, IMHO I'd go as far as to say that it looks better than the original, and the Wild One is one of those few tamiyas where box art is actually an impressive design. Top work mate, you've photographed it good too so its going straight in my favourites.
this looks stunning, truelly awesome job you have done there. I've allways liked the wild one very much but after seeing this car i like it even more.Great job
Very nice, looks really modern, the livery is ace and so are the wheels/tires combo! Superb!
Thanks for the kind words guys. Theres a high possiblity the wild one may get rerelease. Oh well, i don't know whats next from tamiya.
Nice wild one!
Man, that's a nice twist! Lovely colors and nice details. Love the rear lights and totally agree with Jorisschulte; looks like a rere Wild One...in a very positive way. =)
