description  Inspired by Steve (scollins) and all the others that have posted pics of their 1:1 cars - here are some pics of my first car, which I still have today. I’m pretty sure we’re all car-crazy on TC and like most others here – I am also a gear head.

Not sure where to begin with this one, but after seeing pics of Steve’s 64 Merc, I felt a little nostalgic to remember my roots in RC. My Tamiya Falcon was part of the journey in my life that stemmed from some unknown thing, that leaves most boys infatuated with cars and basically anything with an engine, motor or wheels. The Falcon helped me to understand the basic mechanics of gears, suspension, steering and all the other basic things that are associated with a 1:1 car. Sure there are differences, but at an early age, this helps to shape the basic understanding of how things work…especially when you have to fix them!

For me - this car was the point in my life when I started to slip away from RC cars. It was the beginning of a new leg of the journey. As I started to work on this car from the ground-up, it became an obsession – just like any other hobby. This was my daily driver to high-school and work, back in the day. It was also the same car that I would race at the local quarter-mile track once a week. She has seen a lot of good times and a few bad ones too. If she could talk, there would be many stories to be told! It’s almost as if, it is sort of a time capsule, as I have had this car since 1991. Anytime I look at it or drive it, those long forgotten memories just flow right back to me…like it was yesterday.

I bought this car for $350.00-USD in 1991. It had been side-swiped on the drivers side by a delivery truck. I did all the body work to bring it back to life. Including reconstructing the rear quarter panel on the drivers side. Since that time I have dropped countless more dollars and hours into this car. I also did all the engine work as well. I had the car sprayed by a local paint shop and then I wet sanded it and buffed it out the get the mirror-like finish.

Well needless to say, the Camaro has also brought me back to RC, too. After buying my house, I was always working on it and my job also cut back on the amount of free time that I once had, for working on the Camaro. I was starting to lose it and I needed something more, where I could turn a wrench to keep my sanity after coming home from work, just like in the old days. The Camaro didn’t really need any more work and these days money is a lot tighter, so I started working on Tamiyas again. That’s about when I found TC and …well the rest is yet another leg in the journey! Albeit a smaller wrench and screwdriver set…now I’m insane with RC cars again!(…and still the 1:1 cars also) My roots for doing plain-jane boxart RC cars, stems from my days wrenching on real cars. I was always meticulous about trying to maintain that stock, OEM appearance, with the addition of adding a little more muscle under the hood. That’s kind of reflected in my RC cars today.

Here are some of the basic specs on this car; Standard bore SBC 350 cid w/ 4-bolt main, 10.25:1 c/r w/ forged flat-top TRW pistons, .518 lift int/exh, single plane Edelbrock intake, 2.02 GM fuelie heads, Holley 750 double-pump carb, MSD ignition, Linelocks, 4:56 Richmond rear gears, Weld draglite rims 15x5(front) & 15x8(rear)

There’s a whole lotta other stuff too, but these are the basics. Nowadays, this car is a garage queen – but gets out on occasion. The price of gas these days doesn’t help matters either, but I still drive it around when I can. I took the pics at the park down the street, where the wife and I run the RC’s. I thought it would be a fitting place for the pics! Well – here are some pics that I hope you enjoy! ~Brian

(The model is a 1:24 scale that I built along time ago. It has different wheels on it. At the time when I built the model, I had a different set of rims on the car that looked more like the ones on the model. Also – I have some sound bites of the car running, but I’m not sure if I should post here on TC…as it would be pushing the rules of the movies section, since it is not RC related.)

Hey guys, thank you all for the nice comments! This car has been a labor of love...or obsession @ukzz4iroc, your IROC looked fantastic! You're right...you can pretty much watch the gas gage go to empty, as your driving - with the 750 dp on there!

Love the 1st,2nd & 3rd Gen Camaro's. This is abeaut- once again unspoilt extrernally. I had a 750 dp in my IROC and it does truly suck gas

Thankyou for the kind words guys!! @C, the '73 Z28 is an extremely sweet ride! These cars are getting harder to find in semi-decent shape. I've been looking for a 69 Camaro as the next project.
