description  You are looking at the very first complete Callaway C8 Camaro ever built. This car is documented by Callaway as the first complete C8, despite what you may have been led to believe elsewhere. The car was built for a close personal friend of Reeves Callaway, and it was ordered with every available Callaway Option at the time.

This is a very significant car in many ways. It is the first complete C8 ordered and built, it is the first Convertible C8, and one of only two Convertible C8s built in 1994. Callaway only built 6 1994 C8s, and only two were convertibles.

A new article discussing the future value of this car can be read here: http://www.carcollector.com/index.php/columns/next-collectible-rick-carey-0309/44-columns/325-next-collectible-rick-carey-0309.html

Other significant details about this car can be found in the Callaway Brochure. The picture of the engine featured in the C8 brochure is actually taken from the engine in this car. The C8 valve covers were prototyped and built for this car only, as all other Callaway valve covers simply state 'Powerfully Engineered Automobiles.' The engine in this car is also the Original Engine that the car came with. All other Callaway Camaros (except one) were built with replacement LT1s that were removed from other cars. This engine was removed, rebuilt, and reinstalled into its original chassis to preserve its value as the First C8 built.

The Honker Heavy Breathing Intake is also a prototype piece, built out of fiberglass. It was hand sanded, painted, and decorated with decals to market the intake. Future production parts are blow molded out of plastic, and have no markings on them.

The car features the Supernatural 400, which is bored and stroked to 383 cubic inches. The bottom end is remachined, with a forged steel crank, forged H-beam connecting rods, forged flat top pistons, Oliver 4 bolt splayed main caps, and more, to make a bullet proof rotating assembly. The heads are completely reworked, with a new a combustion chamber shape to promote burn, and to compensate for the new zero-deck level of the pistons. Valves are oversized, and a 3 angle valve job improves flow at 1/2 lift and under. The throttle body was also enlarged to improve intake volume, and 1 3/4' stainless headers (also slightly unique to the early cars) help the engine breathe, and put out 404 emissions and noise compliant horse power. The car was upgraded with the 425plus package later in life. This upgrade simply featured 1.6 billet roller rockers, and new valve springs and retainers. The engine is very strong, with a torque curve that is flat and usable in any gear.

With all of the available horsepower on tap, the car definately needed the brakes, suspension, and wheels and tires upgraded. This car got the top of the line Brembo F40 package, that borrowed the calipers from the Ferrari F40. The rotors are cross drilled and vented, and the brakes on this car are phenominal. The suspension was upgraded with the Callaway boxed trailing arms and front bushings and sway bars. The package makes the car very stable, and it does not feel overpowered.

The wheels and tires are the extremely rare Callaway Bridgestone Runflat Wheels. These were nearly a $5000 option back in the day, and they were first shown on the Callaway Corvette Speedster. They were also shown on the silver Callaway C8 press vehicle, which actually began life as a stock LT1 powered CamAerobody Camaro. Only 6 of the 18 C8s built over the 4 year production run came with these wheels.

The car also features a host of options including:
CamAerobody
Supernatural 400 LT1 Engine
Callaway Bridgestone Runflat Wheels
Brembo F40 BigBrake Package
Stainless 1 3/4' Headers
Callaway Cat-Back Full Exhaust System
Callaway Suspension Package
Callaway Prototype C8 #001 Valve Covers
Callaway Prototype Honker Intake System
Callaway Machined Shift Knob
Hurst Short Throw Shifter
Callaway Rosewood Interior Upgrades
The Callaway options on the car cost more than the actual Z28.

It was also featured in Sports Car International Issue#100, and it has been featured in many calenders and has been seen on Youtube. It is one of my all time favorite cars in my collection. Enjoy

Awesome Camaro! That's a great piece of history!

Hello Crash, thanks for the words. It is kind of ironic, but the other 94 convertible is....you guessed it: Turquois! Actually, when Callaway built an Aerobody car, they would repaint it a color that they thought was more suitable than the original color in some cases. In the case of the C8, they repainted the car a custom color that was related to the original aqua color, but I think it is actually nice. I'll post it here, but soon create another page for it. It is currently having some work done.

Really nice piece of Auto history I didn't know existed. I recognize the wheels from all the Speedster photos that were about in my locker and room around that time. Some folks don't like the 'last' generation of Camaro much, but I do. Most Camaros, in my mind, look great in the appropriate color.....NO TURQUOISE. LOL

Thanks for the comments. I stumbled onto these cars by accident. My father collected Callaway Twin Turbo Vettes back in the late 80s, and early 90s. Then in 1999, he got a Callaway Camaro, which I had never even heard of, and I ended up loving the car. I eventually bought that one from him, and have 5 others.

This one is the first of only 6 1994 C8s built, and one of 2 convertibles. I have both 94 convertibles, and a 95 T-top, and a 95 roll bar coupe. The 1995 coupe is a 6 speed, stripped car with only go-fast options. I love that one. Lastly, I have a 95 convertible and a 96 coupe that are the exact same Polo Green color, with the same OZ Callaway Wheels. They are neat cars, and Callaway only made 18 of them in the 3 year production run, so hopefully, keeping them all of these years will pay off one day!
