| description | I started working on this build around Jan-09. It's taken some time, but it's finally complete. I call this one Second-Chance Hilux as the body-set that i acquired from a co-worker was almost thrown out in the trash during some house cleaning that he was doing. This started as a project for him back in the 80's probably when this body set was had fairly cheap. If you follow the link below, you'll see how i received the body-set and also some progress pics along the way. I am really happy with the way this turned out. There was never an intent for this one to resemble boxart, from day one. One thing that i knew that had to be changed on this model was the rear bumper and taillights. I really wanted to go for a scale look with this so i had to start with realistic looking tail lights that were mounted on the side of the bed like a typical step-side bed truck would have. The bumper from the highlift-hilux did the trick. Along with some lights from the re-re Jeep, I was able to get the look that i wanted and also make the taillights funtional. I opted for a set of funtional RAM rollbar lights to complete the look that i was going after. Some shocks from the re-re scorcher and some added scale stuff inside the cab finished it off. Thanks for stopping by! -Brian

Thanks Erich! I was pretty happy with how they looked also. I wasnt sure up front, but in the end they fit this build pretty well.
Wow, I did not know the new tires could look so good on the older Toyota. Very nice.
Guys - thanks for the kind words!
Nice job!
Thanks you Sir, these plastic wheel inserts are hard to find
sweet, i really love the color and the fender flares, looks awesome.
Thanks for the great comments guys! @hdbui69, The stock plastic wheel insert pushes out the inner tire lip and locks the tire in place once the two metal halves of the rim are screwed together. Without the tire insert, you might have to glue these tires to the rim in order to make them work...hope this helps!
It comes out very nice details, I really like the rear lights & tow hitch. How did you fit the modern tires into the these wide rims - these tires' inner are relatively narrower compared to the rims?
Nice work, really smart looking hilux
Looks very nice with those fender flares. Nice to see a non box art version. The blue tone suits it perfectly. Nice work!
Hi all! Thanks for the kind words! Mark, the tires are from the new series of 3-speeders. They are slightly wider and taller than the stock tires and give it a more scale look...i think. I also have to thank Mike (TC: Cul-Tech) for the awesome repro side mirror and Jim (TC: Jims Hobby Shop) for the repro interior set. Thanks again guys!
Smart looking truck,nice piccys toO
Looks fantastic, I have one almost the same colour!
Wow! this has really turned out nice. I love the tailights, fender flares, winch, and i really like the rifle. What did the tires come off from. They look to be on the wider blazer wheels. they look tuff. I think if you could find one of the original toyota tailgate badges it would bring some contrast to the square-flat tailgate. But i must say you have done a fantastic job!
Lots of unique touches. Excellent Job on this vintage model.
Wow Brian, one of the best examples of the Hilux out there! Love the working lights!
Looks great, love the the modern touches on this old guy
I think 'Second-Chance' is the word & you certainly gave it that! Excellent work! Always great to see old cars brought back from the dead. Good idea with the rear lights & the tyres look good on this too.
