I've had this for ages now and with my Baja Scorcher nearly complete I've started thinking about the next project.
My theme will be Baja/Beach racer again, but this will not look like any Ranger you've ever seen before.
With work problems, funds are very low, so at this stage the only work I can do is anything that doesn't need parts...
I'm really happy with the Body I've got. I think its all there, including the rear window. First job is to strip the red paint off (any ideas/help would be much appreciated) .
It will sit on a modified re-re chassis, but it needs some work doing it, if my ideas are going to work.
Keep you eyes peeled for the next stages.

I don't know what you have in mind for this one, but I have to say it already looks too good to make any changes on it. A beautiful Ford pick-up!
matman
Looks good , will be waiting to see what it comes out like .

It does look good in red, but I have a body soaking in brake fluid as I type this. Day 3 and still waiting for some paint to come off, especially around the rear wheel arches. I must warn you that I will have to paint it as I tried oven cleaner first and that left 'splatter marks', but I was planning on a paint job anyway. Brake cleaner is proving better on getting the paint off and is a tiny bit cheaper.
Crash Cramer
PS, don't get the chrome ANYWHERE near oven cleaner or brake fluid, it won't stay on and you will have ruined your pretty chrome.

I have found that brushing the paint with a stiff brush helps loosen and break it up.
stickerbod
That's one of the neatest paint jobs on the grill I've ever seen, I'm sure you'll do a top job on the rest
mr alan
Great project Steve. Don't put the chrome in the dishwasher either! Parts look very different when they come out! Cheers mate!
SRB Bloke
Thanks Guys, I appreciate the help and advice. I'm going to try the graffiti remover for the paint removal. I'll post the updates as it goes through the process.

Nice project Steve, I'm partial to red myself......brake fluid and lots of patience!!
Dante77
Very nice project, Steve. I also like the darker red, but I'm sure you'll come up with something much better!
JWeston
that grille is very well done and I guess you'll get away with not have to strip it? Looking forward to seeing the finished article, J

Hey SRB Bloke, that is my old Ranger Shell, did you get it from Mike...? Btw, Mr. Duke, thanxs the grill took some time to paint....!!! Too Bad you gonna strip the paint from the Body...

Looks good in red, is it worth the hassle removing it? Oven cleaner = brake fluid is still one of the easiest if you scrub/brush it -I use an old toothbrush or following j-mans recommendation bought 5L of graffitti remover get it on ebay -cheaper than brake fluid, smells good like citrus, its the stuff local councils use for paint removal from walls/bus shelters quite quick as long as you agitate with a brush beween rinses
djaxy
i know already that its gonna look supercool
SRB Bloke
I feel quite bad now about loosing the red. But it's not the look I fancied. Maybe I'll do some of the mods first then decide.
The grill is uber cool, well done Frank.
Shame they don't have lenses????

Boy do I wish we got that graffiti remover here in the states, but I have tried what we DO get and it is not good smelling and it doesn't work and I am back to brake fluid. @Frank, that is an awesome grill, I went a step beyond and actually REMOVED the plastic behind the grill, but it wasn't easy and I am not sure I will do it again. There were never any lenses to it, what you see is actually what came on a 1:1 truck of the vintage, not much aerodynamics back then.

Looks good so far, have you tryed to remove paints with caustic soda, i did a lot of work to remove paint with that stuff and for me it works very good for a long time. A few weeks ago i´l foundt another stuff here to remove paint from lexaan shells, its also polycarbonaat safe. I did some little tests to see how it looks!!! Live the grill like it is, it looks beautiful, great also that you have a driver in there, looking forward to the paint progress!! good luck with it.
