Brat-bodied XC01 - San Miguel Race Team (in parts bin)
Here's another one I've been working on for years. I got the chassis from someone here (sorry but I can't remember who!) who was starting a new Tamiya shop. He promised me any Tamiya kit at cost price in exchange for helping out with some writing for his shop's website.
I'd already bought a re-re Brat with the intension of putting the body on a TLT scaler, but the project was never finished and in the end I found it fitted nicely on the XC01.
The chassis is mostly stock, with metal bearings all round, a metal steering conversion and a 55T crawler motor. On stock gearing and Brat tyres it maintains a reasonable scale straight-line speed while still having some torque for inclines. It's not got locked diffs as I wanted to use it on tarmac. Ideally it will be used to pull a trailer onto which the San Miguel Buggy Champ or Mazda 6 can be loaded.
The rear bed is made from some great rubber stuff from a local company. It's all off-cuts and there are thousands of meters of it going for the asking!
Decals produced by Screen Print Digital.
Note the damage on the tailgate - I was testing it the day I'd finished painting it in my flat when the radio went berserk and it full-throttled backwards into the TV cabinet. I'd already used an entire tin of Tamiya's ridiculously expensive gold paint, so I wasn't prepared to fix it!
