Had to be done - Another 'Brat' but this time not a Tamiya !!

Yep after owning 52 Tamiya Brats i've now moved on to the big stuff and bagged my self a 1:1 Brat - ok it's a UK version so it's actually a Subaru MV or 284 (US it was the BRAT and Australia the Brumby)
To be honest I really didnt need this as I have so many projects and real cars and this comes via Joe (Volksrod - cheers mate - it didnt take much arm twisting)
So the real reason why I have been selling a lot of my collection was to buy this, it is taxed and tested but not for long and does need work - so plans ?? Simple - it's going to be a 1:1 replica of the real thing down to roll bars / bumpers / decals. I have managed to source a couple of correct bumpers but I do need the correct early grille if anyone can help. As it's the UK version it dosn't get the roof lights nor does it get the side steps under the n/s/r mouldings. But it's close enough for me..
And yes I will still need to sell some more Tamiyas to help fund the rebuild but something has to give. I already have lots of ideas down to a magnetic front body clip (Joes idea), faux screws for the screen among others. The only thing i've not worked out is wheels and tyres - I dont want a jacked up truck as I still want to be able to use this as a vehicle so a compromise might have to be reached. I will post on here when it's done
Update 2020 - finally finished this, I have made the roll bar and a bar and they will be fitted soon. If any US members can help me source a rear bumper and side steps id very very appreciative, Simon

Thank you Simon for sharing these pictures! I spotted one of these (in white) a couple of weeks ago but did not have a camera to take the pictures.

Looks pretty tidy. Will make a good 1/1 replica. Good luck with this

Very nice and I will use its details to help me detail my eventual Brat project. Let's see that front grill and if it were me, get those wheels/rust fixed SOON before they crumble away. Too bad the UK and Tamiya didn't include the 'jump seats' in the bed.
zakspeed
Yeah the wheels need shot blasting, initial plans are to 'band' the original wheels to possibly 7j and then fit off road tyres. Regards Jump seats, when they do come up they fetch good money now however there is legality issues about being able to use them in the UK think i'd prefer a nice white roll bar there instead

This is truly excellent. Congrat's. I want a stickered up Ford Ranger!

Nice one! This looks remarkably solid body wise for one of these, very tidy indeed and I can't remember the last time I saw one of these on the road. Great purchase!

Honestly I was thinking of doing this a year ago and figured it wouldnt be too hard, but most of them over here are the twin headlight models and its hard to come across the single headlight model. And ol' digger up the road has a nice metallic red one with canopy but its a twin light. Anyways, best of luck with the project, i look forward to the result!

Nice one Simon, do you think it'll be ready for the next meet? Lee
zakspeed
Thanks for coments, it might be road legal for next meet but it wont be how I want it to look as I need to concentrate my efforts on my Ford Anglia - when thats done this will get the treatment LOL I keep thinking of ideas so i'm sure it will be spot on when done !!!!!
