Have always fancied the idea of owning Vanessa's Lunchbox but knew that she was always more for silly fun and shelf life than for serious use. Therefore, several more 'serious' kits later I finally felt justified in making some space for a purely emotional purchase.

The build was pretty simple but I made a couple of tweaks as follows:-

Ansmann 75mm oil filled dampers (front)

Ansmann 85mm oil filled dampers (rear)

    Ball race set

    Reversed wheely bar

    540 'ballast' motor in nose

I'm quite pleased with the finish of the custom paint job, especially as it's only a 'rattle can' job. The inspiration is the A-Team van crossed with Rothmans livery.

Pretty much all of the supplied stickers had to be junked as they didn't match the paint scheme, so instead I used a spare sticker set from the Team Arai Subaru WRX that I had gathering dust.

I've given the car it's first quick run and I'm pleased with the modifications turning it into a fun little basher. The only thing left to do is to tidy up the black trim paint around the windows and possibly apply the 'third damper' fix for the rear axle, although, thus far the handling doesn't seem to justify it.

1 All in all, I think she turned out well Here you can see the 'ballast' in the nose

Looks great! By the way, what's the reason for the inverted wheelie bar?

Yes , Yes ,Yes , I like this a lot - I'm bangin' straight into my fav's !! - I might even nick the scheme ( or similar ) for my runner - too cool

Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone. With regards to the wheelie bar mongoose, I don't want it to wheelie! That's also why I mounted the ballast in the nose. Still suffers from high C of G, so still prone to rolling, but on the whole handles pretty neatly and jumps nicely off kerbs etc.

I really like your colour scheme, it really works well. The blue over white is spot on.

Thanks guys. I wanted a colour scheme that went with the yellow wheels but a bit more interesting than the usual 'all yellow'. Plus keeping the wheels yellow allows me to get a spare 'basher' body that I'll probably paint 'stock'

this is great. if you want a basher body that brings down the C of G get a lexan one. i use them on my basher lunchbox/pumpkin and they handle MUCH better and also survive accidents better.

Thanks for the info. Definitely think I'll look for a lexan shell. I've already rolled her once and that was enough! Want to save this body shell for the shelf

I'd say that turned out really well! Looks great! I've not built one yet, but always wondered about adding ballast...

With the mods the handling is much more predictable. With such large tyres there's still a small amount of bounce, but it's relatively well checked because of the dampers. I've got an additional set of 75mm dampers to apply the third damper fix if needed.

Are you going to put foams in the tires to increase your run times and improve the handling ??

I love the colour scheme, you have done a great job with this build to produce a unique LB.

Will definitely have to investigate fitting foam inserts. I think that and a lexan body are the next two items to address.

Foams in the tires make a huge difference with handling and run times. The ones a few of us use are these

Good tip. Thanks for that. Modelsport are only a short drive from me so I'll just have to pay them another visit asap, must remember not to be another kit whilst I'm there.............

Feeling the love for the colour choice! Thanks for all the positive feedback. It's Pearl white, overlayed with metallic red, with the bottom half done as metallic blue. The whole thing was then given three coats of clear lacquer. The first attempt went wrong because I hadn't applied a primer coat and the paint lifted when removing the red stripe masking. Thus I restarted, this time first applying three coats of white plastic primer. Job done.

I've just installed the foam inserts for the tyres, so thanks for the info Super Gripper!
