Owned since I was 10. Bought it used for $5 bucks
What can I say about this car? The road holding is crap, the suspension is a joke and the chassis is not structurally sound. Who cares, the car is still perfect. I love driving this little guy. As a kid I drove it everywhere and off of everything. I even took this on my travels to Italy in my parents suitcase. I did put a new shell on it about 10 years ago along with new wheels and tires. The wheels are chrome painted and look fantastic. I don't jump it anymore but I still drive it when my poor wife and I go on walks. She's too nice to me. I would like to do something with the rear suspension as my Grasshopper seems to do better still. Any hints would be great.
UPDATE - Like I said above, I got this used. It was in poor shape and a lot of thinks were changed on it. I have now discovered that the reason for the poor rear suspension has to do with the fact that the shock were not only wrong, but the base mount to the shock was missing. I never had that little ball joint installed with those transmission mount adapters and those galvanized metal ball cups. Now it is a completely new car! I can't believe that all this time, I not only had the parts but that it wasn't even assembled correctly. I guess that shows how long it has been since I have taken the car apart.

Awesome buggy and story. Don't sell it, ever. By the way, the pintopower custom bodied Rough Rider for sale today on eBay was yours? I thought it was so cool!
Pintopower
Oh don't worry MONGOOSE, it's not going anywhere. What custom Rough Rider? I don't own one but would love to see it!

Bought used for $5 bucks?!...major score!! The Hornet was my first real r/c car and is my all-time favorite Tamiya buggy. Their flaws make them perfect. I have a re-re I've yet to run and a NIB original I MIGHT build dry some day.

Well, it may have been 5 bucks but it was also a wreck. Still, doesn't take more than another 5 bucks to get one of these back on the road!

Such an amazing buggy. It´s so fun to drive it should be outlawed and it´s aggressive stance makes it look like it´s going 200 ju standing still.

Best basher ever! Great that it is back were it belongs.
