Finally got my hands on this old original beauty please check my ‘BEFORE’ post regarding that story(link at bottom of page).

Yes its tatty, very used and battered, but it is not broken and it is beautiful to me, all those imperfections is what drew me to it the very moment I saw it. My mission was to give it a new lease of life without taking away its old and used look that holds all its history.

A full strip and clean, a re-grease, all new double rubber sealed bearings fitted through out. An old retro 21turn Orion motor, an old 27mhz Futaba rec., brand new Mtroniks 20t ESC and a new Tamiya steering servo fitted, all water-proofed. Gave driver some pupils as he had none when I got him, how he ever got this far with out crashing is a miracle. Gave body a couple of exhaust pipes and some rear meshing for a little aesthetic help. Also it now has an extra set of pinspiked rear wheels for the dirt (pic 10). Other than that this is pretty much how I got it, should hold out now and perform well for the next few summers. Will thrash it next opportunity I get… watch this space for pictures.

Comments and all welcome.

Cheers all…

Used and all, your Grasshopper looks great. It's hard to beat these buggies in the looks department, you know. There might be better runners in the Tamiya catalog, but very few to compete in terms of ''scaleness'' and overall beauty.

Nice work, you have done a top job of not removing the 30 odd years of character .

Nice old thrasher....I'm convinced that there will never be a more suitable Tamiya beater chassis than these.

If you think the car was tatty when you got it James... Think Again, I have just found the pics of the car when I first acquired it and trust me it looked 10 times worse if you like I could share these historical images with you some time
