'Old School' is why I came back to Tamiya
Old School !!! Wow, what a subject.... there should be some good entries on this one.
To me nothing is more 'Old School' that my favourite runner from back in the day, my 1980 - 1985 Sand Scorcher / Rough Rider beast. Which you can see below. Old School is about memories and if any of you study the picture you will see some of the most amusing hops you've ever seen.
I used to go into my local newsagents, WHSmiths I think, and browse through the RC car mags (didn't get enough pocket money to buy them, lol). They had pics of SRB race meets (black and white mainly) then a list of upgrades, if thats what you could call them. Most were all about trying to decrease weight. :)
There's rubber bands for the front suspension and parker pen springs on the rear shocks :) but I have to say a favourite of mine was 'plucking' the tyres to form nobbles and make them lighter. :)
I know we live in an instant world now, but back then I was taking pics of my cars with a small brownie camera, with film inside. It had no zoom, no focus, no adjustments at all (which you can see from the quality lol). Once the film was finished it went off in the post to trueprint normally and I'd watch the post man arrive everyday before school until they came back.
For me it was a great time in my life and one I'll never forget, purely because of Mr Tamiya's wonderful cars and those promo videos...
Also the only way you could get this car on two wheels was a full battery full reverse straight in to full forward on grass... yeah! a wheelie.. :) loads of fun.
Old school photos bring back so much ;)
If you liked those pictures, you should see these...

Steve, top picture buddy . Excellent story buddy, I'm sure most of us have a similar story and pretty much the same memories. It's these kind of pictures and memories that make us so fond of this hobby now, to try and relive some off those good times and care free days we had as kids. Proper old school at its best . Cheers. Very well said! I to used to look threw early rc magazine's and day dream bout many of the Tamiya models. I wanted the blazing blazer so bad but that dream never came true but I was fortunate enough to get a super champ for Christmas and that started my love for rc cars. You have a Great entry old school buggy and old school pic well done!

Awesome pic Steve. Its strange how all the Vintage SRB's of the day are done in pastel colours. Hopefully after that picture you did not hit another young child lol
