1982 Kyosho scorpion unused with custom paint finish.
This is a very rare find which I won on eBay a few weeks back. The auction was for the complete car minus the body shell and spoiler, so theses parts were sourced separately. I knew after carefully studying the pictures that this was ultra rare! a built Kyosho scorpoin which has never been used with period electronics. The seller had purchased this and a few other kyosho's with various model plane parts in a auction and did not know what the cars were so decided to put the lot up on eBay. So I won this one and one other which I'm in the process of restoring too. Both cars just need a total strip down and wash then reassemble. The scorpion was kyosho's first electric racer released in 1982 and up against the likes of the Tamiya frog and SRB's with its very light weight chassis and suspension the results were a very quick buggy leaving the competition far behind. I started by stripping all the components down and a full wash, then a full rebuild without any oils or grease. The tyres are original and as you can see it has the very rare front ribbed tyres. The servos and receiver are futaba and in superb condition. After the car was fully rebuilt it was time to sourced a rerelease body set and commence a paint finish which would truly set it off. I decided on a black finish with a retro finish for the driver, I used acrylics on the outside for the driver with the helmet being painted from the inside. Lots of custom pin stripping involved to end up with a finish I was trying to achieve. I have left a transparent section to reveal the tub showing some moving parts, I feel this finishes the buggy off and is a finished not used enough with RC collectors.
The Kyosho scorpoin has too be one of the best looking buggy's that actually is a very good racer at the same time, and deserves a place in my top ten RC vintage buggy's.
Hope you enjoy the pics and look forward to your comment's

WOW, fantastic job, this fell into the right hands. Great work and the paint job is really period appropriate and I always love any 'X-ray' affect used.

Thanks guys for the kind words, I'm very tempted to get hold of a rerelease just to use it. It's simplicity and lightness along with its price is very tempting. 🙂
