What's better than getting a new kit? A new fantasy kit!

It took me a while to think of an idea for this comp - I seem to have set quite high standards for myself! Initially I was thinking of the open box with glow idea with my NIB King Cab, but then decided that wasn't strong enough so thought of a mock up kit box. I wasn't sure that was sufficient either but a combination of the two was more like it. I'd called my Scorcher styled 911 GT2 'Slammed Scorcher' and realised that the name 'Racing Porsche Slammed Scorcher' had a nice ring to it, so long as you're pronouncing 'Porsche' properly ;)

In order to produce this I had to do three things - design the imaginary Slammed Scorcher kit box, take a photo with a stand-in box, and then superimpose my new box onto the real photo.

I started by creating the designs for the kit lid and bottom as separate files, exactly matching the fonts for the Sand Scorcher and TA02SW lettering. It's roughly based on the Sand Scorcher box but with some additional touches like the mention of my detailing, driver and roll cage. The Japanese text was translated using Google translate so probably isn't totally accurate. Ideally my GT2 on the box would be an illustration but my talents don't stretch that far!

I wanted to use something about the same size as the Sand Scorcher box as I'd be replicating what I did with the car - a new version of a classic. I had to hand the box for an Egress which is close to, if not the same size. I wanted the focus to be on the kit and the lucky new owner so I used flashes in a darkened room so only these would be visible. The box is on a black table and the background is black curtains. There's a light inside the box to illuminate the face and give that magic glow.

With the box designs done I then superimposed them over the Egress box. This involved many adjustments to exactly match the lighting intensity and direction, recreating shadows, then all the fine tuning like adding slight blurs, colour tints and textures to get it looking spot on.

p.s. I realise you'd proably have the box the other way round with the car the right side up when facing you, but I wanted it to be readable without having to rotate the pic or turn your head upside down!

Thanks guys! @Taffer - I am rubbish at painting driver faces, hence my use of the full face helmets wherever possible!
