After nearly 13 years of the re-release party I think it's fair to say that up until recently we had reached a point where nothing could surprise us. Tamiya have now re-re'd just about all of their icons, with the remaining few surely on the way.....and after Associated & Kyosho jumped on board the bandwagon in recent years it seemed that nothing else could really raise the eyebrows and make us say 'WOW'.

Well that all changed in March this year when Schumacher announced the re-release of their all conquering CAT XLS from 30 years ago. And not just any old XLS too, but the one that Masami Hirosaka drove to the IFMAR World Championship. Apparently people have been gently pestering Schumacher to join the re-release party for a number of years. Well, that pestering finally paid off.

To me, the original SWB CAT is the true icon from this company but, hey, this will do for now. Lets see that one next, Mr Schumacher....or at least the parts to convert the XLS into a SWB. A pipedream maybe? Like I say, these days....anything is possible. :-)

Unlikely but incredibly welcome return of an icon. Really nice box artwork..... ....and on the underside too. Box is tiny...parts crammed in there. Manual is incredibly thick & chunky. Never mind the certificate....check out the pen.

Great rerelease. This is a buggy I dreweled over back then. Mine is on the way from Tamico, so really looking forward to build this one.
