Storage Upgrade #2
Just recently I’ve been trying to sort out an issue with some of the RC cars that I have in storage in the loft, as I don’t have kit boxes for all the cars in my collection some are contained in regular brown cardboard boxes that they came shipped in when I bought the cars off Ebay back in the day.
However siting up in a dusty attic through raving hot and freezing cold conditions has led to a number of the boxes starting to sag and collapse and as many of the boxes are stacked 4-5 high in some cases the weight of the boxes above is squashing the boxes underneath and compressing the car in said box to boot so I’ve been wanting repackage my loose RC cars in plastic stacker boxes and a while ago I bought o number of 32 litre plastic storage boxes for just this purpose, I was then able to repacked the car and dispose of the dilapidated old cardboard boxes into the recycling.
This was all well and good but another reason for repackaging my loose RC cars is to hopefully save some space? The old boxes I kept my RC cars in were of all manner of sizes some big some small but the cars themselves were regular 1:10th scale cars all off a muchness in size, so some space was getting wasted and as my other collection is slowly encroaching on loft space I need to economise on the space available to me in the attic where ever possible, now the 32 ltr plastic boxes I bought previously were of a standard size but I soon found that a there was a lot of extra space in one end of the box as they were a little too long for my needs and it wasn’t until more recently that I realised I could get most of my loose RC cars into a smaller 28 ltr box.
So I’ve had a couple of weeks of work recently where I’ve bought a number of these 28 ltr boxes and again been transferring my loose RC cars into plastic and getting rid of the tatty old cardboard boxes, this is an ongoing thing as I need dozens of such boxes and I can get them fairly cheaply at around £4-5 each but it still means finding money in my budget to afford to buy more of these boxes and so far I’ve managed to get 26 but I need at least a further 12 and I would also like to replace the 32 ltr boxes with 28 ltr ones in due course, but then there is the bigger cars that won’t fit into a 32 or 28 ltr box, these are the bigger Monster Trucks I have as well as my Tamiya 3 Speeds which also take up quite a bit of space and need bigger (taller) boxes to accommodate them so this is an ongoing process I will buy boxes as and when spare funds allow but for now I’ve made some progress and managed to upgrade the storage on some more of my models.

Great stuff there, simple plan, but I think you ought to ensure your plastic box supplier/maker will not be changing their designs or colors anytime soon. I can't tell you how many ideas like this I have had only to have the supply of boxes fall short or a minor change to the colors or some other nagging detail screw up my plans. I am in soooo much in love to see what is in that WINGER box, I don't think I would find an old 80's hair band in there and I know they didn't make that many records or fill a box of that size.😆

Great range of brands and models you have there. Nice way to store them too, keeps the dust out.

That's a great storage idea, but wouldn't they look so much nicer in glass cabinets all round your living room.

Same as SRB Bloke

I'd love to have my RC cars on display in glass cabinets in the living room but sadly there is no space for my cars to be displayed anywhere in the house as for where I got the boxes from? There is a discount shop up the high street in the town where I live who sells them... but you can also buy them off EBay there is a UK seller who is a company who makes the boxes and sells them online in lots of differing numbers at reasonable prices

You gotta let um breathe once and a while,,, and let them live outside of their plastic bins occasionally! Do not suffocate them for too long..lol

keep an eye out for any condensation build up given the temp changes in your ceiling. Sure there is something to add to boxes to eat any condensation that might occur.very tidy solution you have of courseðŸ‘
