Hi all,

Just thought i'd show of my first run of replica sand scorcher mirrors. As a few of you will know I have dabbled in replica parts previously and after coming back to it after 10 years I wanted to source a system to chrome them. Well technology has come on and I found a great process called hydrochroming. It actually has a chrome reflection unlike any other product i've seen or tested.

This is not a the best example as its was the first mirrors from the mould and my first ever chroming test, but I am pleased with the result after how much perperation and time has gone in to them.

I have underestimated the time it takes just to get one unit out as it takes a 2k primer after making the part, followed by a 2k clear basecoat especially designed for the process, each each one taking several days to fully harden for the process to continue.

I look forward to working on my countach rear wings, in time... :)

I'll try get a better picture, the light doesn't do it justice.

Update - A second run of the mirrors and handles and they have come out well (pictures 2,3,4). I am a perfectionist as many of us probably are so I will always want to improve them but these are pretty damn good, not perfect but as close as I can get.

Interesting to note that the top coat is actually a special uv lacquer, normal lacquer doesn't work and turns yellow, something to do with the light spectrum.

Wow! Now you can create your own chrome editions. Put me on the waiting list for a bling bling Grasshopper.

It depends what setup you have but yes its available, I've been keeping my eye out for a few years. It is classed as professional as you need access to spray equipment for the basecoat. The small starter kit cost a tad under  £200, so its really not for the faint-hearted hobbyist. What my test it also requires a clear 2k top coat to keep it protected and durable.
