I acquired this a few years ago in a box of parts. It has been well used and obviously gave the original owner many hours of pleasure. The chassis and components were good, gearbox and diff lovely and free but the body was well past saving
I was always a great fan of Sand Scorchers so I opted to buy shell for it .
Then came the decision of how to paint it. I searched the net for paint schemes that caught my eye.
Whilst perusing this site and Google I came across some sand rails.. This got my creative juices flowing . I then had to decide how to build the cage. I thought of brass and copper tube but I haven't access to decent soldering gear, steel rod would be too heavy so i settled on engineering pvc rod.
I tried to fabricate the cage around the original chassis without drilling or cutting too much. I only had to drill a couple of small mounting holes .
As you can see it's not exactly perfect, I should have taken a little more time with the small detail but as a first attempt I am happy with the way it's turning out.
I salvaged the front half of the body of the hornet and wing but the poor condition meant it would be impossible to produce a good finish so I wrapped them in carbon vinyl .The bonnet was trimmed to fit in between the front of the cage and an old wing mount from the scrap box was found to mount the old hornet wing.
I decided to make the model a little more authentic I would mount the rear shocks directly on to the frame. This gave the rear a slightly different look.
It's still work in progress, and plan on fitting a hopped up motor and speed controller mechanically wise, the body and frame design are fluid and change every time I get my tools out.
Thanks for looking and would appreciate and ideas and good or bad constructive criticism.

that's a good look for the hornet, well done. Are you notching the joins?

Yes , joints held together with screws and a little glue . Thanks for the comment

I like the different concept and execution. Seeing as it's basically your prototype. I'm sure you can refine it as you go. Nice work!
