Orig Descritpion: This is a Blitzer Beetle built up as a wild desert racer. It is a runner and puts up with a lot of abuse. Most of the details are scratch-built or kit-bashed. Features a roof rack, spare tire, engine scoop with duct work, debris netting, rear exhaust header, other little bits and some weathering. I have made changes since my last series of photos to improve the scale appearance of this model. This includes a TA03 (2WD only) chassis as opposed to the Blitzer and a scale flat 4 engine. Update 4/7/11: I still have this up for reference but this model has been parted out.

This is one cool beetle ! where did you get the engine from ?

Franklin

2-Oct-2005

Engine was from the GI Joe Sand Rail that Hasbro made a few years back. It's 1/6th scale so the engine had to be sectioned in both directions and fudged a little to make it more in scale. I bought a few basket cases off eBay. Exhaust is actually bent brass rod with scratch built stack. I wired it up as well, added belts and pulleys.

Awesome work. Totally in tune with the current real beetle trend of 'Rat look!' Would be proud to have that on my shelf!

just found this. Seems like you haven't been on here in a while. I hope things are still going well at Hasbro?

I have been on RCCrawler.com building another Bronco. I guess I could post it here-it does have TLT axles but that's about it.

great work. beautiful detail too, pic one looks real. I like the chassis swap idea, does ti take much modifying?

Franklin

Thanks for the comments. It was not too hard to swap the chassis out. I cannot remember too much other detail since this one is long gone.
