I've still not got stuck into my 3 speed juggernaut/clod buster project. At the moment, I've got a juggernaut 2 chassis and axles, high lift gearbox and clod buster body shell. I know what i wanted to make - a clod bodied 3 speed leaf sprung monster truck - a realistic looking classic monster truck.

but now, i've got a new chassis that i could use instead. Its an Integy tube frame chassis that i found on ebay over xmas for not much money.

so now, i could make a more modern looking monster truck, with 4 link suspension instead of leafs, and a tube chassis instead of a basic frame.

I don't know what to do! A 3 speed tube frame truck sounds to good to pass up, but a leaf sprung clod buster would be pretty nice too - i need help! :D

check out the link below the pics and let me know if the old skool look is better!

1 Tube frame chassis! 1 1 Suits the clod shell pretty well! 1 Should be room for a 3 speed transmission 1 and a driver seat, dash board etc...!

I've messed about with similar things and a leaf spring lowered Clod does look very good ! The tube chassis would be good with a couple of Clod axles - good basis for a crawler if you wanted one or change the gearing for a monster ! The decision about the body could be made at a later stage. you could end up with TWO great trucks

I'd use your blue tube chassis and make a 3 speed 4 link monster truck. I'd probably be tempted to saw off that top cabin part though unless its structurely integral to it. I'm really not a fan of leaf spring suspension set ups. i know it can look very scale but there's very little subtlety to it for crawling. Make your own links and get them powder coated to suit the blue chassis. Also RC4WD.com do nice blue shocks. Could look great. Good luck

Id go for the old style monster truck, there was a truck called Samson that used a chevy body same style as the clod. Chrome wheels, clod tires, samson paint scheme, would look ace! For me the clod body is too old to go with a tube frame..

Personally, I think the old-skool monster trucks of the 80's and early 90's were much nicer to look at before space-frame chassis arrived on the scene. Ah, makes me want tobreak out all my old 'War of the Monster trucks' tapes again!

I believe that's a New Era Clod chassis. Good luck with your project!

cheers guys! i think i may just have to make both! volksrod you're right about the shell - its not from the tube frame era of trucks. It looks like i'd need to cut up the chassis inner bracing to get the 3 speed gearbox in there, so this chassis will either need the juugy transmission or clod axles. I like the idea of making a crawler, as i haven't really got a crawler. thanks everyone!

Sounds to me like you've gotta build two trucks!

The NEM tuber chassis is designed for 4 links, aka modern monster trucks. So the Clod body is better suited to the original Samson that used leaf springs, as per the original Clod buster. The tuber chassis is so sweet (and expensive) that I'd use it to replicate a modern Monster Jam MT, and use TXT-1 componentry. Don't waste your time with the 3 spd - not req'd.
