August 2008: This started out as a £15 boot-sale bargain chassis with a tatty Impreza shell. I found a F150 Truck body and wheel set NIB on eBay and customised the mounting posts to fit everything together.

The spot lights are from an old Blackfoot, and the nerf bar is the roll hoop off a cheap buggy - parts I had stored since the early 90's! I've since removed the nerf bar lower stays and mounted the spotlight bar directly to the radiator grille, and fitted M series bumpers to the chassis front and rear (also the battery clips are missing in the pictures). The stickers are part of the original F150 set, but placed differently - I didn't want to try and replicate the box art. I chose the colours as I like the similar Toyota Prerunner kit, but put my own twist on it.

This is my first lexan shell, and it was fun to mask it to get the result I wanted, but I would prefer to work with hard plastic to be honest - so have bought a Blackfoot Extreme shell which will either replace this, or be built up on another TL-01 chassis, and I'll keep this one as is as a runner... Jx

Finished! Truck body perfect wheelbase for TL-01 Blackfoot lights and custom nerf bar Body, stickers and wheels from eBay First run! Rear view

WOW, best looking F150 racing truck I have seen. The alternate colors work wonders on it.

Thanks for your kind words everyone! This was my first real project, so was a bit of a testbed... but I was pleased how it turned out. It's great fun running it too - the TL chassis with bigger wheels is surprisingly good off-road! I prefer the scale modeling style, and my next couple of projects will use plastic rather than lexan shells for more realism... I'll keep you posted!

Very very nice truck! Original and good looking. But be carefull with a King Blackfoot shell: that one is 25 cm wheelbase and TL-01 is 26 cm. The TA-02 has a possibility of changing the wheelbase to 25 cm. Good luck!

Ah, thanks for the info CASE1 - in that case, I might just have to buy a TA chassis for it afterall... hmmmmmm... x

Really like the finish, its a little unique. Colours work really well. I prefer it than the Toyota Pre-runner! I prefer plastic bodies rather than Polycarbonate too. Looks like you've done a really good job of it though. Greta work!! More photos please of it outdoors on the dirt!!!

Thanks Tobbe70 - I'm a bit of a fan of retro colours, and love the orange/yellow combo... I've got some similar plans for my 'Scorcher project too...

The front lights are a nice touch. Make this stand out from the crowd. Very Baja.

The lights might find their way onto the Beetle project, not sure yet... I also have a Blackfoot Extreme bodyset that I'm itching to fit to this TL chassis - I can't stop!
