November 2009: Having put all my project vehicles on hold for a year whilst I went traveling, I thought it was about time to unpack all the boxes and get back to work on the 'Scorcher project...

Of course with the recent announcement about the re-release Sand Scorcher, you might think the incentive to build this hybrid would have waned somewhat? - I certainly would love to build a new SRB chassis at some point - However, for me this project was all about building a runner, that I would not be frightened to bash around... and of course this car is going to cost me considerably less than the £270 or so mooted for the new Scorcher kit!

So, I have spent most of the weekend properly fitting the Monster/Blitzer shell to the Brat chassis, and preparing the body ready for painting... so far I'm liking the primer look, and am not sure whether to go retro as was the original plan, or something more modern (see Baja Designs sticker), particularly as this car will have Frog wheels fitted to narrow the front track and fill up the rear arches...

I was fortunate to visit Buggyworks in San Diego late last year and was inspired by all the Class 5 racers they had there... including some crazy long-arm suspension conversions that looked like real-life Tamiyas!

Anyway, back to my 1:10 project... the body is mounted as low as it can be at the front (without cutting the shell) and I'm happy with the body height since I'll need this sort of clearance anyway as on full suspension travel the wheels are right up in the arches as it is... hopefully this bad boy will jump well when it's finally running!

For now, a few photos... Jx

Loving the primer look! Front mounting hole repositioned Modern graphics? or go retro 70's? - yew decide! Arches tapered in a Baja racer stylee...

Looking good there Jenny! The Buggy Champ-kit is a blast to build, a real nostalgia overdose!

Thanks guys! While I was away I saw the RR/BC was going to be re-issued, so emailed a friend of mine in the UK who used to be into RC cars - he emailed back two minutes later having ordered one! I saw it built up the other week, and it looks fantastic! I bet he buys the Sand Scorcher too now x

I am tempted Connor I must say... although I really wanted to paint the lower half orange (which would clash awfully with the red Bajadesigns logo, dahling!) as a friend of mine used to have an orange Beetle when she went to art college - it was so rusty she painted grass and daisies along the sills - looked excellent!

Nice progress. Maybe go with modern graphics if they are going to be inline with the cool logo on the image.

If you want to see a pseudo retro concept...i did the same sort of thing with one of my old frog chassis and a Kamtec Beetle body, check it out in my showroom. Nice job so far.
