I always had RC cars, but I wasn't introduced to the kit building RC's until later in my youth.
For my 16th birthday, my older brother bought me this 3 wheeler RTR RC that kept breaking.
After the second one broke, he went with me to the hobby shop to ask them to give me credit towards a different one.
This was in Jan of 1988. The Hobby clerk agreed and I went about trying to see what I could afford for the price.

After spending about an hour trying to decide, I had narrowed it down to either the Hornet or the Striker!
Even though I knew I would have to save for all the electronics, I was ready to put together a kit. Liking F1 cars when I was younger, I decided to pick the Striker.

I spent many years running that Striker. I went threw 5 chassis as they always broke at the shock tower if you hit anything hard. I eventually made a homemade skid plate for it out of a cut piece of aluminum. I had also rigged it to accept a special ops Hummer body.

Well time went by and I traded it in at the local hobby store for a Bolink Sprint car.

Many of many years later I came a crossed a new in the box kit on eBay and purchased it for $250 USD. About 2 1/2 times what they were back in 1988. I proceeded to build it and it brought back memories of me at 16 in my parents basement at dads work bench putting it together.

I have ran this model many times over the years I have owned it. Always being careful as I was haunted by that weak chassis point at the shock towers. So I wouldn't bash it too bad. Over the last 6 years I had sold off most of my 50+ car collection. And only now in the last year have I been collecting and getting back into the hobby. But none the less.......the Striker (My 2nd Owned one) always remained in my collection. It always reminds me of my younger years, my brother, and when my world was much simpler and innocent.
