The wheelie special one!

Sorry for the title, couldn't resist!

So this is my entry for the 'Special One' competition.

It was quite a difficult choice because quite a few of my cars are special to me, in different ways. It would have been easy to choose a car from my younger days - the Sand Rover which was my first car, the Wild Willy M38 that I wanted so much or the Willy's Wheeler that I had so much fun with. Or one of the modified or scratch built cars that I've put so much time and effort into.

So why this one? It doesn't look very special. I've owned it for years and it's been used a lot. It's not bullet-proof either because it has needed a long list of replacement parts to keep it running! Not the fastest, not the prettiest, not the most valuable, not the cheapest. So why is it special?

Partly because it was one of the first cars I bought when I got back into the hobby 9 or 10 (or more!) years ago. I was so pleased to find they were available. Not quite the M38 I wanted when I was a kid, but close enough. Over the years my collection has changed a lot, cars have come and gone, but this one has stayed. It's gone from being a quirky outcast in collections of on-road cars or trail runners or SRBs to being the centre of my (slightly mad!) current collection - and yet it's still one of the first choices when we run some cars.

So really it's 'The Special One' because this is the car that has kept me in this hobby and helped me find which parts of the hobby I enjoy most. And it's what a hobby should be - 100% pure fun!
