There are some cars that are very historically important to the development and Evolution of the Off-Road Racing buggy as we know it, and this is one such car, the LOSI JRX2

It was the first car to be made by Losi way back in 1989 and it was an overnight sensation, there were two versions of the car, the JRX with a plastic chassis and double wishbone rear suspension, and the JRX2 which had a flat composite chassis deck and the incredible 5 link rear suspension set up, a feature which made the cars name on the circuits, this car went on to establish Losi's name as a serious competition car manufacturer and they have since gone on to lock horns with the almighty Associated RC10 and are still today a dominant force in competition off road racing.

But it all started here, me car was a steal, I bought it off Ebay for a Buy-it-Now of $50, there were a few other nice JRX2 on there at the time including a nice MIB, but none could match this car for sheer value for money, it looked to be fairly complete, but now that it's arrived I've been able to inspect it more thoroughly, and it is in pretty good shape, there is some rust on some of the exposed metal parts like the tie rods and rear springs, there are also a few missing screws but this won't effect the cars integrity too much.

The body is a bit rough and ready also, it has a number of ventilation holed cut into it, there are a few cracks around the rear shock positions and the orange paint that looks so bright in the pictures is actually more of a dirty brown in true light, the Digital camera flash does too good a job of bringing the colour up, I have also noticed that the body fitted is the wrong type for the chassis, its on original JRX body and not the JRX2 shell as the rear shock bulges are missing and the cut outs are in the wrong place instead, still I might be able to get some spares for it as this car seems to still have a good spares following on Ebay.

The chassis is the best part of the car and the fancy rear multi-link suspension is the main reason why I wanted one of these cars in the first place, I find unusual or innovative designs on Buggy chassis fascinating and this is no exception, it's actually more of a modified double wishbone set up than a radical new suspension design, still it allowed for more adjustment and flexibility and that’s part of what made this car so great, the rest of the chassis is pretty standard, centrally mounted racing pack for low centre of gravity, flat plate composite sandwich chassis, Ackeman style multi link steering geometry, and HUGE volume aluminium Oil shocks, a set of simple lightweight one piece wheels completes the ensemble, however the tires fitted are non-standard ones.

The gearbox is supposed to be a fancy bit of kit too from what I have read in a magazine advert about the car 'Low rotating mass' 48 pitch gears and a really low gear ratio that allows fitting of some super HOT motors for greater power and control, it does not come with a slipper clutch though? those gizmo's came a little later, my car has actually come fitted with a motor, I've been told its a Trinity type, but it doesn’t have any stickers on it to say who made it or what turn it is? it does have a fancy ESC plug on it though and the body is plastered with NOVAC decals? I wonder what kind of ESC this car had fitted ;)

Anyway it's yet another car that I can cross off my list of Wants, I'm pleased to have got one, it needs a little work granted, and as with all my cars it will get a run someday it even has the potential to race, OK it's a bit dated compared to today’s latest XXXXXXX? buggies but it showed the way forward in 1989 and gave the RC10 a bloody nose to boot, and for that reason this particular Losi is more than welcome to become part of my collection :)

The simple body hides a fiendish chassis design. You'd think this car was sponsered by Novak. Yep there is yet more Novak decals on the back. The chassis is pretty much typical comp style. Now here is the legendary 5 link rear suspension. The Underside is the usual smooth and flat deck.

Nice car! the front shocks are from the JRX pro, the tower and shocks are much higher and give more travel than the jrx2 ones...
